konfuzd Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 So, my bf introduced me for the first time as something other than just my first name (most of his friends already knew me or knew of me). He called me his "ol' Lady". I'm not offended by it at all, but one of my friends thought I should be. I just thought it was kind of cute because that's the first time he's used any official title for me, so we were still in that ambiguous stage, before then. Just want a general opinion for fun, how many of you are offended by the terminology?
blind_otter Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Eh, I think it's fine. My SO introduced me as his "close, personal friend" for a long time.
Saxis Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Sounds like something I would do, but I think I'd be a bit cautious for a first time "label".
Author konfuzd Posted March 18, 2008 Author Posted March 18, 2008 Eh, I think it's fine. My SO introduced me as his "close, personal friend" for a long time. That's great! I think I may steal that one to use as his title.

Trialbyfire Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I've never been called that. If someone did that, I would thank my "ol' man", while pointing at the thinning crown on the top of his head.

Trialbyfire Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 but what if he has a full head of hair? He has to sleep sometime...
Author konfuzd Posted March 18, 2008 Author Posted March 18, 2008 yeah, that wouldn't really work. He's younger than me and does have all his hair.
Author konfuzd Posted March 18, 2008 Author Posted March 18, 2008 He has to sleep sometime... that's priceless!
Pyro Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 He has to sleep sometime... You are awful, but just remember that you have to sleep sometime as well.
allina Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Eh I think it's cute, I wouldn't be mad. My bf's brother calls his gf his "lady friend"
Trialbyfire Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 that's priceless! You are awful, but just remember that you have to sleep sometime as well. I do need a haircut soon. If whomever decides on giving me one that I don't like, I'll pull a Britney and get rid of the entire ass-length mop. That should make him happy.

Trialbyfire Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Just pull the look and not the personality. Baby, baby, how was I supposed to know...
audrey_1 Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Britney IS from Louisiana, so I'm sure being referred to as the "ol' lady," fits right in with her southern charm, or lack thereof. I am also southern, and I have to say guys referring to me as such offended me. It's what truckers call their road whores. I'm just sayin'!
Duck n' Bunnies Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Ha ha! Nope! Im a jokey kind of girl and my BF and I introduce ourselves as such all the time... with a giggle of course. Is he humerous?
Author konfuzd Posted March 18, 2008 Author Posted March 18, 2008 He's a total riot! On our first date we were running down a main street in the city giving eachother wedgies! He said that's when he knew this was going to be a long term thing. Now that's love
Lizzie60 Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Well.. my young lover calls me 'auntie' today ...
Replicant Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Using the term ol'man usually it's used to refer to your father, so if it were used on me i'd either thank her for the comparison or question her past definition of having close family ties! Western Canadian women on the other hand tend to appreciate being called ol'lady. Most of which have had to fend off personal encounters with wildlife, had severe sub arctic winter exposure and or are in active duty with the Canadian military. Sweetheart just doesn't cut it with them

Btw, you know why all the trees in the West, lean towards the East? Wait for it...

Although, I hear "little lady" more often and I don't much care for that either. Both are ususally met with a sideways glance. I would just keep playing with titles until you find one that is special and that you both like.
melodymatters Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 ...Waiting here TBF..... Oh, I had NEVER been called that until I dated a "biker" and then I just found it hysterical and teased him about it. ( as well as other southernisms or bikerisms !)
Trialbyfire Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 But of course mm...Toronto sucks (especially the Leafs)!! I like being called by my name. "I'd like to introduce Trialbyseriousfire".
