Prosecco Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 (edited) (Not soppy music, or sad music...) What songs do people have that help? (Obviously tastes differ a lot - below is a wide variety... (I've not included classical music, simply because it tends to make me more emotional, not stronger, but go ahead and add) I'm listening to: "Good Luck" by Basement Jaxx quite a lot. Would like to add a few other empowering songs to this... Jill Scott - Golden --> isn't quite something you can sing and feel better, but it's a good positive song. Want more of the angry power ones, though. Pink - There You Go Bad Cover Version - Pulp (Could be interpreted the opposite way, beware!) Fighter - Christina Aguilera M People - Moving On Up I will survive - in its many forms EVery Day I Love you less and less - Kaiser Chiefs Don't Ask Me Why - Eurythmics Don't Feel Like Crying - Danni Leigh Stronger - Britney ( ) (I'm not a fan, but I promised variety...) Right Through You - Alanis Morisette Caught Out There - Kelis (ok - perhaps not a healing song, but damn fun to sing along to when you're not in the best of moods... it's a wee bit man hating - we need some strong men songs for fairness... ) Liontamer - Faithless (the beginning talked bit are... wise: "If you place a thing in the center of your life That lacks the power to nourish It will eventually poison everything that you are And destroy you. As simple a thing as an idea Or your perspective on yourself, of the world. No one can be the source of your content, It lies within, in the center.") Edited March 16, 2008 by Prosecco
LuCidiTy Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Terror by My Ruin...because it's tough and honest! and she swears a lot Falling Slowy by Glen Hansard...this one I thought would do the opposite, but for some reason it makes me feel better...maybe because it's so hopeful
aln186 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Jimmy Eat World - The Middle Daughtry - Over You Three Days Grace - Just Like You Ronan Keating - The Long Goodbye Maroon 5 - This Love And not really a "moving on" song but a song about being yourself and finding your inner strength Audioslave - Be Yourself Open to interpretation.... I put millions of miles Under my heels And still too close to you I feel Audioslave - I am the Highway
Kamille Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Army of me - Bjork I will survive - any version as well Respect - Aretha Franklin Sunny Side of the Street- Ella Fitzgerald tout doucement- Feist Float On - Modest Mouse And for some reasons, songs that are actually about love, by Louis Armstrong, Ella Fistzgerald etc (like dancing cheek to cheek, at last, what a difference a day makes) remind me of how I want love to feel and remembering that feeling helps me through. I'm sure it's not a technique that works for everybody. My ultimate keep faith in love song is: Wandering Swallow- Forro in the dark with Bebel Gilberto I can't find the lyrics, but it is a song about letting a swallow guide you to wherever your love maybe, beautifully sung by Bebel Gilberto.
Trialbyfire Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 (edited) I tend to view this song with a lot of irony. It's empowering in a strange, dark way. Lithium - Nirvana Edit - Ooooo, another one: Silver - Moist Edit2 - It's my life - either version by Talk, Talk or No Doubt. Edited March 16, 2008 by Trialbyfire
