After I was made redundant by my old company last month a friend of mine offered me a job at his company. Naturally I immediately said yes and I am extremely grateful to him for rescuing me from the scrap heap. The problem is that it is not the kind of job where I planned on spending the rest of my working life. I feel I owe it to myself to move on and do something I really love. I would hate to leave too soon and appear ungrateful so I am wondering how long I should wait for decency's sake before I start looking for a job that is more Me.

Look, it's really simple...

if this person is a good friend, why don't you ask him/her for a word...during work hours...

tell him/her the discussion is strictly business, and tell them you don't want to threaten the friendship because you really value it and are really grateful but...

Thell them what you wrote in the post...

Explain you need to do other things...

Be upfront and honest.

They'll appreciate it a lot more than you suddenly saying,

"Oh by the way, I have a new job now.... Bye!!"
