Brought this up in another thread but though I would give it its own. Whould you consider erotic stories to be porn? What about pictures instead of video? Do you preffer one over the other. Do you not do either because you think the are both "mental cheating". What do you think.

My personal definition of porn is any material which depicts people of the desired sex (or animals/objects, etc) in a purely sexual way. If the intended use of the material is to augment or provide sexual arousal, it's porn in my book. I'm a purveyor of porn :D

Women, by my experience, seem to discount romance novels as porn, but I've heard enough references to them (my wife is addicted to that stuff) to opine differently. I test this theory by firing up the laptop to look at some "images" whilst she is reading her romance novel. One may speculate on the predictive outcome of that test ;)

Porn is anything that stimulates the sexual senses through observation.

Cheating is any action or thought that violates the commitment one makes to another person.

Porn can be considered cheating if it is done in secret by one partner with the knowledge that the other partner would consider it a violation of the commitment between the two partners.

Just MO.

LOL, c'mon buddy...... So if I see a girl that I am sexually attracted to thats Porn. How about a massage from your partner. How about a soft kiss on the lips..... now thats filthy and erotic and should be banned. How about lady justice showing her erotic nipple, could it be there is porn in every courthouse in North America? What about teaching kids in school about safe sex....pornography? This message pornography? I could go on and on and on..........

I would consider porn to be: any media source that is specifically intended to stimulate the sexual senses. Movies, stories, pictures, art, etc.

In this sense, I would consider some classical art to be porn. I also believe there are very obvious degrees of intent, that go into the design of each media. Some porn is intended to stimulate intensely, while "soft" porn is just meant to titillate.

Though some would consider strip clubs and live sex shows to be porn, it is not. It is a voyeuristic act, or an exhibitionist act, and therefore not pornography.

Romantic or erotic novel is very different from porn IMO. But they do no good to the viewers just like the porn. when people watch a romantic movie or read a romantic novel, they tend to compare their reality to the imaginery stories, and resent their love life is farrrr from that ideal, and thus try to change their partners to fit in those stories and create many troubles in real life, or simply seek the romantic love mentioned in the stories in their whole life one after another partner

But romantic stories are same as porn, from the point that both of them are fantacies, far from reality, but without failing lure countless people to buy into that stuff

what is romantic story? it is lots of hard work, and self revealing and self discovering, and self changing. of course it is real romantic when both learn to selflessly love one another

Okay, you got me in your own kind way.

However, a kiss or a massage or teaching sex would not qualify. Observation was mean to mean observation with the eyes. While one could argue that teaching safe sex include pictures, I do not think that most would be sexually stimulating. One could argue that even if it stimulates ME and not you that it is porn. Then the question becomes...is the definition of porn relative?

I made an assumption or rather I left out a couple of words in my haste.

Shadowofman, you said it well, and you filled in the blanks that I left.....

This is what I meant to say.
