Prosecco Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I'm trying to write something on 'what is love' - whether it exists, and how it seems so fundemental to social relationships, yet seems to be something everyone struggles with at some point. I like writing, and logical thinking helps clear my mind. So - I'm seeking opinions. So - what does 'love' mean to you? Does love exist? Is there a difference between loving someone and being in love with them? If so, what is that difference? Can you be happy without it? Can you be happy with it? Why do we crave/need it/want it? Why do people put up with extreme unhappiness in the name of it?
SoStupid Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 true love is when nothing and no one exists to you. its when you look at the person and you think.. "nothing compares to you" when i say "i love you" i mean I care about your emotions and your well being I enjoy being in a relationship and spending time with you I value your opinion, especially when it comes to me I feel that I can trust you I think that you are SPECIAL I think you are worth being loyal to I use these meanings for all types relationships: friends, lovers, boyfriends, etc.</SPAN>
serendip Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Let me not to the marriage of true minds Admit impediments. Love is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove: O no! it is an ever-fixed mark That looks on tempests and is never shaken; It is the star to every wandering bark, Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken. Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks Within his bending sickle's compass come: Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, But bears it out even to the edge of doom. If this be error and upon me proved, never writ, nor no man ever loved.
soapbox Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 1. So - what does 'love' mean to you? Love is the most powerful of emotions that always surprises you with it's strength and endurance. It's having a best friend who satisfies all of your humanly needs. 2. Does love exist? It's a scientifically proven fact 3. Is there a difference between loving someone and being in love with them? If so, what is that difference? Love can be felt for a pet, a piece of art, or a best friend. But being IN love with someone involves sexual desire, and the feeling that you could only see this one person for the rest of you life and be okay with that. 4. Can you be happy without it? Of course. Love is a privilage, not a right, in a sense. You earn it. 5. Can you be happy with it? Well DUH. 6. Why do we crave/need it/want it? First and foremost, society tells us we need to be in a loving partnership to be happy....jerks! Also, love stimulates the addiction/reward center in our brain, which is why it makes NC so damn hard, and why we still love even after being completely betrayed or hurt by the one we love. 7. Why do people put up with extreme unhappiness in the name of it? See above answer. The brain is an amazing organ.
Biker2007 Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Love is a verb, not a noun...it gets said for many of the wrong reasons. When I say, "I love you" to a significant other, I mean the following: Love is friendship that has caught fire. It appear as quiet understanding, trust, sharing, and forgiving. Love remains loyal through the good and bad. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weakness. Love feels content w/ the present; it hopes for the future; it does not brood over the past. Love includes the day in and day out chronicle of irritations, problems, and compromises; the small disappointments, big victories, and common goals. If you have love in your life, it can make up for a great many things you lack. If you do not have it, no matter what else you have, it never feels enough. Hopefully, my actions can back up these words the next time I say them...
