g1976b Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 ...are you done? It's the last piece of the lack of sleep thing I'm dealing with. I can now go to sleep, and I'm not waking up in the middle of the night much anymore, but even now if I wake up at any "reasonable" time (including weekends) there is NO chance of me going back to sleep. My mind instantly kicks into high gear and I can't relax and fall back to sleep. Granted, I'll take this compared to the first month or so when I couldn't sleep, and I'd wake up CONSTANTLY and wouldn't be able to go back to sleep. It would be: -go to sleep around midnight -wake up at 2:15am -toss and turn for a couple of hours...eventually "sleep" -wake up at 4:30am -up the rest of the day So, is anyone else having problems going back to sleep when you still have time before the alarm goes off?
Lyssa Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Yup, been having that lately. I would wake up in the middle of the night... then toss and turn, think of my late mother... then cry myself to sleep... eventually. THEN all of a sudden, I'd wake up again. Counting sheep does not help at all!!
trulysomething Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I seem to wake up in dreams early morning...always about him. It's frustrating. Sometimes good and sometimes bad. They've started to subside, but I still keep waking up at the same time...no matter what time I go to bed at night.
Aboohoo Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Going through the same thing... When we 1st broke up a month ago i used to wake up several times in the night and ill be covered in sweat - like my body was trying to get rid of the heart ache?! - anyone else experience that? Now its not soo bad - yeah i still wake up but not as bad, but unfortunately my ex is still the 1st thing on my mind. But as the day goes on he slips away (which is nice)... Its get easier x
s_n_d Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Im going through the same thing too. Something that helps FOR ME is praying whenever I do wake up in the middle of the night. I find that when I do this it helps me sleep within minutes. Again..It helps ME.
realgone Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 -go to sleep around midnight -wake up at 2:15am -toss and turn for a couple of hours...eventually "sleep" -wake up at 4:30am -up the rest of the day this was me exactly. i went about a month without ever getting more than 4 hours of sleep a night. i'd wake up in a pool of sweat some nights. i'd wake up in the morning straight into a panic attack... so crazy. horrible. it got to the point where i really thought i was losing it. i bought some over the counter sleeping pills and got around 7 hours for the first time in weeks. i felt so much better, so much more like myself, much more able to cope. it's better now. after two months i'm still definitely at the point where there's no chance of going back to sleep after i wake, but it's better than it was.
directx Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I would have trouble going back to sleep as well, even as a kid What helped me was: 1) Pretend to be dead. Like, a corpse in a coffin (morbid, i know) 2) Start going through a list of chores I dreaded doing. Magically, I didnt have the energy to get up anymore 3) Build a story in my head, again, lying still 4) Oh! And very effective: imitate the breathing as if I was sleeping. Like, reminding the body what it should be doing. This helped me much!
aRoseforJada Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I'm pretty much the opposite, I'll sleep my whole life away if you let me! But when I'm really stressed I have trouble sleeping and concentrating. Its like I'll wake up in the middle of the night thinking about work, or my ex. Praying puts my mind at ease, and then I can finally rest.
s_n_d Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Last night was especially terrible for me. I woke up a few times after LONG dream about my ex. In this dream, My ex and I got back together... Its funny how a DREAM can mess you up when doing NC.
carhill Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Melatonin.... When I was depressed during my last NC (years ago), I slept all the time, which is opposite of usual (4-5 hours per night). Now, if I find I'm having sleep issues, I pop one or two Melatonin 1/2 hour before going to bed and I'm out like a light all night. I learned this technique when flying red-eyes all the time back in 2006. Works great. Just don't do every night. The hormone is supposed to reset the sleep cycle, not be used as a sleeping pill. It's pretty normal during a disturbed sleep cycle to wake up after 2.5-3 hrs, due to REM sleep patterns. You wake up just as you're going into that deeper pattern. Very debilitating over time. If this happens to me, I get up, leave the bedroom, go to another room and read (usually my laptop) for awhile, then when drowsy, go back to bed. If my wife is home, I put in my earplugs (she snores pretty loud). Usually works great.
Zacky Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Im not saying you should smoke, but marijuana helps alot of people get a full nights sleep. Helped me out the first couple days of NC
Author g1976b Posted March 3, 2008 Author Posted March 3, 2008 Yeah, I've never smoked, so I don't think that's something I need to be starting at this point. I'm sure it would help mellow me out, but I've got enough problems right now. Last night was another bad one. I woke up at about 4:30 and couldn't get back to sleep. I thought I was doing better. The last 3 nights have been awful. She's coming over tomorrow night and we're supposed to 'talk' for the first time in all of this. Who knows how it will go. Maybe it will lead to more sleep.
Phateless Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Cartwheels. It helps a lot to do cartwheels. Are you serious? lol. Once I'm up I have a hard time falling asleep. Even naps in the middle of the day are near impossible for me. Even if I'm tired, I get restless and have trouble sleeping. If I could keep a regular and predictable sleep schedule I could get so much more done!
