My boyfriend and I both applied to grad school, but only I was accepted. He was rejected for reasons other than his grades. His grades are great but there were things on his application that the schools didn't like. Ever since then (a year ago) I get the feeling that he thinks he's stupid and he projects it to other people. For example, sometimes he will accuse me of making a statement that somehow implies that he's stupid. I always tell him that he's completely misinterpreting my statement. He also does this with people at his work. I've told him many, many times that I respect him and don't think he's stupid, but he still seems to have this problem. Sometimes when I tell him that I love him, he'll ask why. It seems as if he feels he's not good enough to be loved.

He decided he will apply to grad schools again this summer, but if he's accepted, school won't start until fall of 2009.

How can I help him at all? Thanks so much for any advice!!

Your bf's ego was bursted, so now he's taking out his anger on ppl. It's not your fault. But I think that showing too much sympathy towards him will only make it seem like you're babying him. You can be supportive but you have to draw a line where his backlashes might eventually hurt you. My ex was like that, he had alot of self esteem issues, and despite how much support or encouragement I gave him, he sometimes took it out on me thru unrelated issues ie. ignoring him, talking with other guys, etc.
