michelangelo Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 How does one go about tracking down someone from a location in the mid-90s if you know a street address, a first name and the first letter of the last name? It was an apartment complex.
Mr. Lucky Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I'd hire a PI that specializes in that kind of thing. They can use shoe leather and databases to get that kind of info quickly... Mr. Lucky
Author michelangelo Posted February 22, 2008 Author Posted February 22, 2008 Yeah, I know a pro can do it for hire. But what I am wanting to know is how to do it, not how to hire someone to do it.
Owl Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Contact the company that manages the apartment complex. Give them the information that you do have, and request any information you can get about the other person. They may not want to give you anything, so you're going to need to be prepared to talk about why you need the information and what you're going to do with it. Hopefully that will at least give you the last name. Any other info is gravy. Once you have the full name, start doing searches with that name on the internet...and cross-reference those searches with other information (like that address, the city name, etc...). See if the apartment complex knows who their employer was at that time...then expand your search to that employer, and contact that employer to see if you can get information about them there. Be friendly...chatty...and have a good reason why you want the info. You'll be amazed at what a good smile can do.
red9632 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 There are several internet sites that claim to be able to find lost people. USSearch dot com is one of them. If you do a google search for "find lost people" you will find others.
red9632 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I just went to USSearch dot com, entered the city and state where I lived 21 years ago and it displayed all the cities and states that I've lived in since. It costs $40 to get the addresses. There may be cheaper websites, but it appears that this one works.
Art_Critic Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Without a last name there isn't much you can do.. There is a way of tracking who has gotten mail at certain addresses but even those do require at least a name to start the search.
Owl Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I've already suggested one way to get that last name. Here's another. Go to the apartment complex and knock door to door and ask anyone if they can remember who lived in that apartment then. You never know...sometimes people stay in those places for a long time.

When you're doing so, wear a short-sleeve blue Khaki shirt, baseball cap and jeans and carry a clipboard. That combination will get you in anywhere ... Mr. Lucky
