peace_pipe Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 I have a 9-5 salary job. I love my job and I don't need extra money, but I don't really have many prospects here, especially working with my bipolar ex. So I was thinking what I could do to possibly make money and put myself in a situation where I could potentially meet availaible "quality" women. I don't have a problem meeting women, but I am tired of getting with the wrong ones only to realize they suck. I feel like even when I meet someone, she's usually my only option at that time. I'd like to have more options. I've worked as a waiter before (I hated it) but I met some cool girls along the way. I've been thinking of bartending or something along those lines. I've never been a bartender, so I am not sure where I would start. Maybe there are some other suggestions you guys have? I live in a resort town, a few blocks from the ocean....
spookie Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Oh yah, real smart. Bars are THE place to pick up high-quality chicks.
blind_otter Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Dude - do NOT date people you work with. It'll all end in tears.
Author peace_pipe Posted February 14, 2008 Author Posted February 14, 2008 Oh yah, real smart. Bars are THE place to pick up high-quality chicks. No, no. I was talking about bartending in a restaurant setting. And while most high quality people are not bar rats, I, for one am going out to a singles bar tonight. I am not a bad person.. so there
Author peace_pipe Posted February 14, 2008 Author Posted February 14, 2008 Dude - do NOT date people you work with. It'll all end in tears. I've met some of my best relationships at work. And with the second job, i would to become attached, i could just quit and still date the girl. Geesh people, I know it's V-Day but lighten up
blind_otter Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Hey alls I'm saying is don't **** where you eat. I prefer not even to get close friends where I work. It just makes it easier. Hell, I'm friendly with everyone I work with but I don't hang out with them outside of work related events.

It just makes it easier. Hell, I'm friendly with everyone I work with but I don't hang out with them outside of work related events. That sounds kind of harsh. I have so many friends at work and I try to make friends wherever I go. There are some folks here who I wouldn't bother with...
Ronni_W Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Are there any organizations where you could volunteer - Tourist Board or library? Start a reading or computer or movie club, or a special-themed "singles" group? Join a gardening or sailing or rock climbing club? Or teach a hobby or special interest at local community college or 'learning annex' or church or service club? I'm not sure that bartending will help you expand your social circle - not too cool for a bartender to be hitting on patrons, plus the hours are terrible if an active social life is the goal. Good luck. It is sometimes tough, and needs lots of "out of the box" thinking.
StartingOver07 Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 I second the motion for volunteering. Another idea is to join some sort of interest-based group... whether for rock-climbing or poetry reading. Whatever floats your boat. Even if you only expand your circle of friends, you never know who one of those new friends might introduce you to. Plus, you'll be having fun in the process. Good luck!
EYECANDY000 Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 If you are considering working as a bartender then there is schools you can go to. But, those to me are rip offs. Instead of trying to find a job just to meet people, have you tried just going out to different events, and cinemas?
LosingMyDreamGirl Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 This is actually what I plan to do. My job has only me, a 65 year old woman and a 57 year old man. I have a bunch of tenants, but after having sex with one, I realized its not a good idea to do this since it did not work out with me and her.... So, I have thought about getting a second job to meet a girl. Might as well be making money meeting and befriending a girl instead of blowing it on drinks at a bar.
