shadowplay Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 (edited) This morning while waiting in line at CVS, banked on all sides by trenches of red and pink candy, it dawned on me that I hadn't gotten my bf a Valentine's Day gift. I guess I assumed that the convention is just for the guy to get the girl a gift, rather than a mutual gift giving as with Christmas. Am I right about this? I really have no clue how it works because I've never celebrated the holiday with past bfs. Now I'm panicking with only 20 dollars to spend, a 45 min lunch break in which to spend it, and absolutely no clue what to spend it on. To compound matters tomorrow is our sixth month anniversary and I think my bf is planning some sort of joint VD-Anniversary celebration tonight. Should I just apologize and tell him I'll get him a gift this weekend? Edited February 14, 2008 by shadowplay
tanbark813 Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 I guess I assumed that the convention is just for the guy to get the girl a gift, rather than a mutual gift giving as with Christmas. Am I right about this? No. It's always been mutual gift-giving with every gf I've had. Should I just apologize and tell him I'll get him a gift this weekend? Only if you'd be okay with him doing the same thing.
Author shadowplay Posted February 14, 2008 Author Posted February 14, 2008 No. It's always been mutual gift-giving with every gf I've had. Only if you'd be okay with him doing the same thing. ****, I'm in trouble. What do you guys think -- would a card from CVS be lame/cheesy? I'd like to get him something better but there's the time constraint.
starlite Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 I wouldnt even consider showing up empty handed. I have been seeing a guy casually for almost a month, he is making me dinner tonight and I am going to pick up a book I know he wants so that I have something in case he gets me flowers or something.
Pyro Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 I would say a card at the minimum, but a gift isn't necessary IMO.
spookie Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 (edited) Last night the dressing room at the Landing Strip Gentleman's Club was strewn with presents: roses so good-looking they looked plastic, heart-shaped boxes of chocolates, lingerie wrapped in delicate pink paper. The sugardaddies and the regulars had gone all out to treat their girls. I don't have a sugardaddy, and I'd told my regulars on Monday that it was home-baked goods or nothing for me this year. Mass-produced s!ht is so cheesy. So, I got nothing... a fact I was slightly resentful of as I sipped my cranberry-vodka in silence in a corner, eying everyone's presents and attempting, as usual, to eavesdrop. (Got my fair share by stealing 3 MM pervets' ties). Can't you bake him some brownies or something? Seriously, I think a card from CVS would be so pointlessly token that you'd do better flushing the money down the toilet. The toilet of someone you don't like, for example, so that it clogs. At least that'd be fun. But that's just my opinion. Edited February 14, 2008 by spookie
tanbark813 Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Spookie's idea of baking him brownies is a good one.
spookie Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Spookie's idea of baking him brownies is a good one. *Magic brownies. :bunny:
Ariadne Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 (Got my fair share by stealing 3 MM pervets' ties) Why do you steal all the time? You must feel the world is so unfair, ha? And Shadow again, shows how much she doesn't give a fk about her bf.
ps123 Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Spookie's idea of baking him brownies is a good one. Thats kind of what I was thinking. Does he like any particular types of candy or anything. Personally, I'd be fine with just a card, but a bag of Reeses peanut butter cups would be even better. I don't think it has to be anything major but I'd at least get a little something.
Author shadowplay Posted February 14, 2008 Author Posted February 14, 2008 *Magic brownies. :bunny: Unfortunately he's not a pot person... Now if only I had some shrooms (he likes those)...
spookie Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Unfortunately he's not a pot person... Now if only I had some shrooms (he likes those)... How can one love shrooms but dislike pot?!!!
Author shadowplay Posted February 14, 2008 Author Posted February 14, 2008 How can one love shrooms but dislike pot?!!! Don't know...he's a weirdo.
curiousnycgirl Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 How can one love shrooms but dislike pot?!!! Pot knocks me out, shrooms turn me on! I totally get it.
Pyro Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 How can one love shrooms but dislike pot?!!! Opposite reactions. Pot made me quiet and lazy and shrooms made me outgoing and it was fun. Those were the days.
spookie Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Opposite reactions. Pot made me quiet and lazy and shrooms made me outgoing and it was fun. Those were the days. Hm. Pot makes me insecure and introspective. Shrooms make me roll up in a fetal position to cry. I like them both, but I'd always assumed it was a both or neither kinda-deal.
Chauncey Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Why not take him out to dinner? Gift Cards are also your best friend at this point. Also just to make the night even more enjoyable, you could always give him a "little something" extra
