Ok, now I'd say I'm a pretty friendly person, and I like to talk to people, despite being on the quiet side. When I'm talking to some people on aim or whatever, sometimes I fall into the trap of everybody's responses being ya, lol, ic, etc. numerous times. I don't think I'm boring, but those kinds of responses make me unsure. Or maybe its just natural once in a while to have that, I don't know. I just don't want to be that guy that people dread having to talk to! I feel like I'm putting some substance into the conversation.... What do you think? I'm just a junior in high school

If you don't relate to what the other person is saying, or you agree but can't add anything more to it, then don't force it. If they aren't saying anything that makes you think and want to respond with something that you find interesting, then it is only natural to respond with a "boring" response, and it has no reflection on your personality. Just don't stress about it - I'm not sure what your current friend situation is like (lots of friends, a few close friends, etc..) but chances are you will find people who you can respond to with more than surface statements. Sometimes these friendships break down back into boring conversations, and that is not anyone's fault, it just is the way it is. Friendship is dynamic, not static, so it can be hard to know where you stand. It is important to focus on whether you are happy in a conversation or a friendship, rather than what people think of you. If you do things that please yourself, at least you are happy. Ironically, this can be the best way to show others how interesting you are, because that kind of strength is rare in high school, and it lets your own personality shine through. Best of luck!
