mysticalstar Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Hi. I have been on ortho-tri-cyclen for about 7 years now. Lately I have been feeling extremely irratable, over emotional, and just simply not myself. I have an appt. in 2 days to talk about switching to a different pill. I am thinking of trying the pill Yaz or even Ortho-tri-cyclen low. Does anyone take either or those two pills and if so how do they make you feel?? Or do you take something that you could recommend? I just hate the way I have been feeling and I need something that will help with my symptoms. Can anyone give me some feedback? Thanks!
Lola180 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I used to take birth control pills too, but stopped because I always had the same symptoms that you described, although they would start right off the bat, not seven years later. I felt like a basket case. I tried a million different pills (well, really only about 6 or 7), and experimented with different levels of estrogen and progesterone. My doctor told me that high levels of estrogen were causing the symptoms, and put me on a low level brand (I can't remember the name - sorry!). Maybe after seven years your hormones are changing, and it is time to switch brands. I think you should talk to your doctor and try a new brand. I've seen commercials for Yaz, and they seem pretty cool. What about other birth control methods, like an IUD?
ElvenPriestess Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I've been on Apri for a long time and don't have problems with side effects. On the very first day of my cycles I would say I feel a bit irritable, but other than that it's worked out great.
redsoxfan84 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I've been on Ortho-Tricyclen Lo for about a year now. I don't have many problems: some breast tenderness and bloating for three or four days before my period comes. Other than that, no issues, I don't think it's changed my mood, and I haven't experienced any weight gain, except that I think it increased my breast size about a cup. I'm really regular now, which was an issue before, and my period is relatively light and lasts about five days.
lovelorcet Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Why would it be the pill if you have been taking it for 7 years without real issue?
KittenMoon Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Why would it be the pill if you have been taking it for 7 years without real issue? 3-4 years into taking OrthoTri I started getting vicious nausea when I'd start a new pack. I think as your bodily hormones change, your reaction to the pills can change as well. I'm starting a monophasic(?) pill soon to hopefully help my depression circa menstruation- maybe you could try one of those (Yaz is one). OrthoTri has varying levels of hormones- monophasics keep you one one level all month.
lexi29 Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 I've taken Ortho Tri cylcen for the last 8 yrs. Started with the regular and now take the Ortho Lo but I dont remember how long ago I switched. I have the symptoms you experience every once in awhile. Normally I am just really moody and irritable the day before my period starts and thats it though. Every once in awhile I will have the depression symptoms for a week or so but its rare. Talk to your doctor.
Lovely87 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I was prescribed Ortho, and I was EXTREMELY irritable and it even made me sick. I switched! Although, I couldn't tell you what I switched to, its a genaric for something, but I would recommend it either. It also makes me sick.
