HokeyReligions Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Just curious about how some of you guys feel/think about female action hero's and sports. Lara Croft for example; or the new show Sara Whatever Chronicles - about the Sarah from Terminator (can't remember her last name) but she raises a boy to beat robots in the future and she's tough and kicks-male-butts. And female sports - do you take them as seriously as you take male sports? Women's basketball for instance. I'm just wondering. My hubby dismisses anything with women as the tough hero as silly fluff and a waste of time. (Hubby doesn't like women, and no I don't mean sexually - he was seriously abused by his mother and its a long story, but he doesn't like or respect women on the whole. He does respect individuals, but well... anyway its too long a story for this) But it made me wonder how other men might really and honestly feel about female heroines or hero's who are portrayed as tough, especially when they outwit or outfight men.
Arch Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Xena was hot, It would own to have her as a bodyguard, because she pwned as well. Allot females act in such a way that allot of them don't really deserve respect (large amount of that is due to societies degeneration - but that discussion is outside the scope of this topic). I have no doubt that women can be close to as tough as men, but they certainly wont have the pretty faces the ones on TV have. A tough female in real life - at least physically tough is not going to be as attractive as the actors who play "tough" women in movies/tv shows. Still the fact is male and females historically have had significantly different roles, its not that either was unimportant but there purpose was simply different. Males were naturally stronger, larger and more aggressive, Women were naturally more nurturing and took on the mothering role. I don't think you can compare the two correctly, unlike the people at the womens lib movement camp, women cant do everything men can do and men cant do everything women can do.
Woggle Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 I have no issue with them and I will watch a movie featuring a female hero if it is good. I love the Kill Bill series and the Aliens series was very good as well. I have yet to see Tomb Raider because movies based on video games usually suck.
Enema Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 I find them boring compared to males when in more physically demanding roles. They never impress me at all in martial arts or action movies. The only one I have liked is Mystique from X-Men... all other female fighters are horrible.
Pyro Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 A few of them are pretty sexy. -Halle Berry's portrayal of Storm -Jessica Alba as the Invisible Woman -Maria Sharapova -Anna Kournikova
Jersey Shortie Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Not a man but Buffy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Sarah Michelle Geller) kicked ass! I think having female super heros can be a good role-model for young girls.
Pyro Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 (edited) Mmmm... Sydney Bristow... I meant to include Elektra on my list. Also the new Terminator on the Sarah Conner Chronicles. She is nice........ Edited February 4, 2008 by Pyro
