Hi. Does anyone know if an advisor at a university can withdraw a student from his/her major without the student's consent? I'm having a lot of problems with a condescending advisor at my university. She keeps dropping my classes. Because of this, I am going to have to give back 25% of my financial aid. (She has taken me down to less than full-time status because I am repeating a course I took years ago at a community college.) The program I am in is competitive--journalism--and I'm afraid she will just push a button and take me out of the program altogether. Also, is there someone else I can go to at the university to learn my rights? This is so stressful, and I need help ASAP. Thanks to anyone who can help.

talk to the dean of your college (her immediate superior) as well as to the dean of academic affairs or even the registrar's office, and air your concerns. also see about getting switched to another advisor if you feel she's out to sabotage your education. Because frankly, you're paying HER to guide you in your career, and she needs to tell you why she's doing what she is & how it's supposed to "help" you.

Thanks for the titles. I'll start at the bottom and work my way up.
