EYECANDY000 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Question. If you met someone at a bar/pub/ lounge whatever. and when they called for the first time they said your name wrong would you get upset. My friends and I was discussing it the other day. She said I was wrong for hanging up on the guy, and that I should have at least gave him a chance. But I did!! When he said Can I speak to _____ , and I said "Who? and he said the name again ... so I hung up. I guess my whole purpose was for him to pay attention! Now I dont have a hard name to pronounce. For instance if my name is Cathy and he said KAtie. Would you give someone the benefit of the doubt?
tanbark813 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Would you give someone the benefit of the doubt? If it was the first time and I met them at a bar then definitely. Not only am I horrible with remembering names but he could have misheard you if the bar was loud, not to mention whatever alcohol was involved.

What what if you put your name and number in their phone?

I'd joke around and give her shyt for it but I wouldn't really care. I'd just tell her she has to pick up the bar tab the next time we go out as punishment.

Now if he were to call you Jenny or something way off, then I would be offended. That shows you that he wasn't 100% interested in you, but if you put your name in his phone and he gets it worng, then he is just plain stupid.
Star Gazer Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 I wouldn't think it was a big deal, particularly if the names were close together. If my name were Jessica and he called me Jennifer (or Kathy/Katie), that would be okay. But if my name was Rachel and he called me Monica, then I'd be perturbed... but would still let it go IF I were interested to begin with.

Is it possible that the pub you met at was noisy and he didn't hear your name properly in the first place? I have been guilty of meeting someone, getting his/her name, and then forgetting it or not being quite sure about it and yet feeling too embarrassed to ask again.
StartingOver07 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Ok Granted.. Understandable.. What what if you put your name and number in their phone? I didn't see this when I posted. I suppose this changes things, unless he is foreign and unsure of pronunciation? Why do you suppose he called if he wasn't paying attention?

tanbark813 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 it wasnt that noisy, but i stored my name and number in his phone Maybe you misspelled your own name.
Pyro Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 He's probably not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Phateless Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 When girls I've met before forget my name I refuse to tell them. It's pretty funny to let them sweat it out over the course of the evening.

Really? That's so odd. And then they sweat it out over the evening? I would think it was weird and annoying, like sorry so I didn't remember your name the first time around

melodymatters Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 LOL, if you had my name, you'd end up blowing off half the males on the planet ! I guess I'm just so used to it , that it doesn't bother me a bit !
curiousnycgirl Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 I blame it on the corporate world. OMG this made me laugh out loud! Thanks Tan! Eyecandy - I have a very unusual name, not hard to pronounce - just different. NO ONE ever gets it right, I've just learned to answer to almost anything that's even close. It doesn't bother me at all anymore. I think the most bizarre is when I call someone and say hi it's X and they oh yes how are you Y? Like they are correcting how I say my own name?! It does however drive my boss nuts, which is even more amusing.
LoveLace Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 It's easy especially in a loud bar or club to misunderstand anything a person tells you. Also if he was under the influence, that might have been part of it too. This is considering the name he used was at least close to the real thing...I don't know how many times I thought, what was that guys name? Mike? Mark? And at times I turned out to be way off still. He probably felt pretty silly when you hung up. You could call back if ya wanted, just say did you call me? And apologize about hanging up, explaining you thought he had the wrong number. Chances are he'd be apologetic too at that point....and be glad you called. But yes, I'd say it's a minor mishap for a brand new friend.

How would you feel if you personally put your name and number in his cell phone and he still called you by the wrong name?
norajane Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 When he said Can I speak to _____ , and I said "Who? and he said the name again ... so I hung up. How do you know it was the guy from the bar?
melodymatters Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 How do you know it was the guy from the bar? Ah, very Hercule Poirot of you NJ, and an excellent point !

norajane Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Ah, very Hercule Poirot of you NJ, and an excellent point ! I was stuck on that point as I read through the thread! And my other thought was, if it was the guy from the bar, maybe he was just a little nervous and misspoke. He got up enough nerve to call, so give him a break...
