claireNI Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Hi, Im new here. Im 26 yo, and I have been smoking since I was 11. I have always been a heavy smoker, I could smoke up to 40-50+ per day, and its got to the point where I want to stop. I dont even enjoy smoking anymore, I think I just do it for the hell of it, when Im on the computer, in my breaks at work, after eating, after waking in the morning, watching tv etc. It seems a little daunting right now, and I dont really know where to start in giving up after all this time. Any advice at all? do the patches/gum work? do I just throw them away and never smoke again (tried that in the past and last almost 4 hours then went out and bought more) I really want to stop, and I am willing to put the effort into it, whats the best way to go about it? thanks, claire.
StartFresh Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 You smoke 40 to 50 cigarrettes a day? Holy god. Cold turkey probably wouldnt work. You may want to slowly wein yourself off as in if you do 40/day cut to 20, then 10, then 5, then 1, then none. Maybe get yourself down to a low amount first, schedule it out by weeks. Maybe each week cut out a certain amount. I've never been a habitual smoker so I can't say I'm experienced on the subject, but thats how I've cut out other unnecessary vices in my life.
