a_torn_novagirl Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 How do you know you're in love? I've had four relationships, and every relationship I had I told my ex-boyfriend I loved him but I really didn't. When our relationship ended, I realized that I only said it because he told me first. For once I want to be the one to tell the guy I love him, but how will I know if I love him or not. What are some signals to let me know I'm in love? Besides the common ones....I can't stop thinking about him, You're the only one I want to be with, talk on the phone for hours, etc. I've been through all of those common signals before, and I wasn't in love. How do you know you're really in love?
Lucasarts Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 They say its just a feeling that you get everytime you look at your SO (you can't help but just smile and love everything about him/her and who they are) But thats just what they say. Truthfully, I think you'll know when you love someone. . . it'll be something you've never felt before for someone (it'll be a different kind of love compared to loving friends and family) and it'll just click. Hasn't happened to me yet, but I don't rule out the possibility that it will. In the meantime, you just gotta keep looking and hopefully someone will make that happen.
Author a_torn_novagirl Posted January 21, 2008 Author Posted January 21, 2008 :)very helpful advice, thanks.

How do you know you're really in love? Being in love, for me, is really a feeling. I get a rush, an emotional high at times when I'm talking to my SO. Sometimes your heart rate goes up, your palms become sweaty, etc... Really, it's a physiological reaction sometimes... Over time, this changes and you grow into a fondness that grows stronger. That "in love" feeling sticks around, but it morphs and changes...and then sometimes, quite suddenly, you feel the same exact thing you felt when you began the R. Really, "you just know". Another test: if you've gone insane, you know you're in love.
blackbird Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 I think it's easy to confuse those new-relationship-energy feelings with love. When you've just started seeing someone, there's that exciting rush of something new, attention given and gotten, the emotional thrills of discovery and anxiety, the way the mind constantly wanders to them, the constant surging to create connections, not to mention the sexual attraction, feeling desire and feeling desired. Not to say that the posters above me who have listed similar things aren't really talking about 'love', because those things can carry through past the honeymoon stage. But I do think it's dangerous to equate them to love. I don't know how you, specifically, can tell if you're in love. But I'd say definitely take your time, and don't say it because he says it first, or because you want to be the first to say it.
