You need to cool it with the Molson. Trim it down to one case a day would you?

To stay on topic I will say that the telephone was a great invention.

Yes it is! The best way to keep in touch with your loved ones when you're away!

I read the part about Canada, but didn't read the whole thing. It was like a boring history lesson, and I happen to love history.

Please, tell me what the point is. I'm open to the possibility of "think[ing] again about the telephone, but I need some guidance.

I'm with you. I just need someone to tell me how and what to think. I just can't seem to be able to do it on my own.

I don't care if I get another warning- this is silly- the lack of free speech on this site has turned me off of becoming a paid member- which I was considering up until recently.

Amen.. I love the telephone I use it every day just about ;)

I would like to pat the person on the back responsible for inventing the cordless phone. That was great.

Except when the battery dies!

Cordless is good, but a part of me wants to slap the face of the person who invented the cellular phone.

I don't mind it when I'm dialing, but the whole "constant access" thing is unnerving, and that's what people expect. Plus that voicemail function is defeating the purpose of me ignoring a call in the first place. They just leave a message and then I'm obligated to call them back!

But I did manage to have two missed calls, and a voice message from someone this week and look them straight in the eye and completely NOT acknowledge that I had a call at all last night.

I was feeling pretty ballsy!:cool:

For some phones, if not all, you can opt out of having voicemail. My cousins phone has no VM. Probably for the same reasons as you.:laugh:

My VM says something along the lines of "I'm away from my phone or I'm ignoring your call....leave a message"

Mine, too! I think it says "Either I can't take your call or I'm avoiding you, but if you want to leave a message, I might call you back." people always say "I hope you're not avoiding me", and often I'm doing just that, but I feel better knowing I warned them.

Couldn't agree more, D-Lish.

I use my cell-phone constantly, but I never use the telephone. To connect this post to relationship discussion - how many guys here are afraid of making that first call when you get a girl's number? I always am, lol.

I think for that one, you have got to start with my own rock star, fundamental physics discoverer/inventor/idol... James Clerk Maxwell.

I used to have a T-shirt that said:

And God Said:

{then a list of Maxwell's 4 equations in their integral form}

... and there was light.

What a geek. (Me, not Maxwell. Well... him too, I suppose.)

What?:confused::laugh:

At least you are honest.:lmao:

What?:confused::laugh:

Maxwell formulated 4 elegantly simple equations which are all you need to describe the interaction of electric and magnetic fields to create electromagnetic waves, which include the full range of everything from radio waves (including your cordless phone), to microwaves (including your microwave oven, radar, satellite communications) to radiative heat transfer ("infrared" radiation) to the light that our eyes perceive, to ultraviolet and up into higher energy stuff like x-rays, etc...

In the physics world, he's one of the rock stars. Just thought you should know, since you were looking for someone to pat on the back for the cordless phone...

Understood. You can probably tell where I stand on that subject, so I probably don't need to make myself look any more nerdy than I have already. :o

Alternately, we could generate an alternate version of the perennial OM/OW - BS flame war... The geeks :) vs. the physics haters :mad:. See? I'm already fanning the flames with little passive-aggressive smileys. Maybe that would take some of the heat off the OM/OW forum for a while...

If I had a phone number for him, I might phone Tony to complain about how tight the rules are here these days. :(

These days you can't even be 'off topic' on the Off Topic forums.... :confused::rolleyes::mad: Doesn't make sense.

Talking of phones I got a new Nokia N73 and I'm very pleased with it!

i want to upgrade and prefer staying with Nokia because often my accessories still work. Does this phone (staying on topic< I was flagged yesterday for a rule infraction:rolleyes:) take pictures or store music, or any of that good tech stuff?
