ashleigh422 Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Are there any unwritten codes or rules that I should know about hitting on clients of the law firm I work at? I work in a small town and I want to hit on two of my clients (not at the same time). Can I flirt while at work when they come in? What are the general can and cant's of appropriate behavior? If i see him out in the town, can I hit on him?? (even though I already know everything about him?)
FoundMe Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 I'm guessing you're not an attorney at this firm. If you are, you'd know there are rules in the Model Code of Professional conduct that essentially advise very strongly AGAINST starting any sort of personal relationship with a client after that person has become a client of the firm. Additionally, I would seriously consider the effects this will have on the lawyers at your firm. If it is as small a town or as small a firm as you're implying, any sort of 'extra curricular' happenings between you and a client are likely to have an effect on the client's relationship with the firm (e.g., if it goes poorly, the client may take their business to another firm, and you'd be costing one of the attorneys a good chunk of change).
Leia Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 No way! You can't be hitting on clients of firm. Doesn't matter if you're a lawyer or not, it's just unethical. Isn't there anyone else for you to hit on??
Lee725 Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Not a good idea small town or not, there are a whole bunch of issues which could arise from this including loosing your job. I hope someone comes into your view soon who isnt a client, then you wont have to worry about it!
