haha, so i take it you concur?

I watched a terrible movie with him in it. Basically so I could see him without his shirt.

That was the only good part of that movie.

It was Imposter. Terrible, except for that one clip.

I don't think she's really just average looking. She's a pretty girl with glasses on. She's toning down her looks on purpose with those glasses, to fit a particular niche or fantasy of the smart girl with the sexy/naughty streak, like the woman in the old Adam Ant Goody Two Shoes video.

Mmmn Tina Fey is hot. I loved it when her and Amy Poehler did Weekend Update on SNL...They looked gorgeous in those little suits :p

excuse me? i'm naive because i think it's possible not all women are trying to fit a mold that other people put them in? do you know anything about tina fey at all?

i wear glasses. i'm also the 'tina fey type'. i'm not trying to be sexy with my spectacles :laugh:i'm just trying to see clearly and i hate contacts. it happens. you rude, rude thing.

or...maybe i was just playing naive in order to fulfill the role of the coveted, hot, innocent advice forum poster. the world will never know....

Well, I think it started out as the persona of the character she plays and she's successfully adopted that as her own persona. Not that she isn't smart and that it wasn't her style. But she plays it up.

I guess I'm saying that if she got contacts and different hair, clothes, she could be hot. But she's not going for the hot girl niche.

You know who I really think is only so-so is Sandra Bullock. I don't really see what is so great about her, but she has leading lady status.

He's not trying to be rude. The smart sexy thing is working on him.

I don't know. The last thing I saw her in was the time travel romance movie with Keanu Reeves. I enjoyed it, but more despite her than because of her.

Meg Ryan has the cute thing going on.

Did anyone see the French movie, an art film (The something's? Wife?) It came out almost ten years ago now, But they live in an isolated place and there is a prison, and she takes up the cause of saving this prisoner guy from being executed and the husband helps her to do that.

The husband is really sexy in that movie, mainly because of the amazingly adoring looks he gives the wife, especially when she isn't aware of it. It was all about his love for her as he watches her save this guy. I'll have to Google it. I don't know if anyone knows what I'm talking about.

Ok, when I said plain, I didn't mean "one step down from gorgeous"! I meant plain. As in average looks, 5/10 at best, or even below. Someone who, if you dated them, your friends would be saying "Oh my god, what do you see in HER?" (or him) and then shake their heads in bewilderment.

Apart from the brave woman who posted the guy with the disgusting beard, no one has really answered properly. Ok, I will throw a few out there:

Dawn French (UK comedienne): http://data1.blog.de/blog/a/annikabryn/img/dawn_french.jpg

Ruby Wax: http://www.princesstv.com/images/programmes/logos/ruby_large.jpg

and I agree with Tanbark about the medieval serving wenches!

Look how much wider her elbow is than the middle part of her upper arm. Eating disorder.

I know this is way back in the thread by now, but if you look at the lighting in that photo, you can see that a significant portion of the rear part of her upper arm is iln shadow. Look at the curve that defines her shoulder, and the rear of it disappears into darkness, also note that the line of her back is defined by a wide, completely black shadow. So the apparent bulby-elbow, skinny bicep thing is an illusion based on the deep shadows.

Anyway, I saw her in some French films when she was quite young, and properly waited until she was an adult to say: "yum..." That was about the time I began a lifelong crush on Sophie Marceau, but I don't think anyone would call her "plain..."

She does a lot of producing these days, doesn't she?

Isn't sexy usually deermined the body?

Like I see women all of the time who have fairly plain looks, but great curves and that makes them plain, but sexy

I've always associated "plain" more with lack of curves and a lack of obvious sex appeal. I picture someone skinny, mousy and a bit sullen looking. Some of the women who've been mentioned so far have very interesting faces, or they're cute because they've got dimpled cheeks or an appealingly quirky look (eg Meg Ryan, Sandra Bullock).

Plain to me is boring looking. Unstriking. Lacking in interesting features or facial expressions that would capture the attention. Sandra Bernhardt, for instance, couldn't be described as plain. Some people would say she was ugly (I would, as I think she looks exceptionally hard and bitchy). Others would say she's beautiful because they find that look very sexy or magnetic. But plain? That would be like saying a building with 100 Roman pillars topped with concrete grapes and gargoyles leering out of every gable is plain.

Nice analogy ;)

Yes, but how women judge beauty in other women is different than men. You're not looking at them from the standpoint of wanting to f**k them, unless you're a lesbian. And even in that case I'm guessing the evaluation of beauty would still differ slightly.
