mental_traveller Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Anyone experienced this? Someone who objectively speaking is nothing special to look at, or might even be borderline ugly in conventional terms, but there's something about them that makes you wanna get jiggy with them, to the extent that you'd even pass up a conventional hottie and make a move on this girl (guy) instead.
Trialbyfire Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 To use celebrities as examples, Russell Crowe, Eddie Vedder and Johnny Depp. I'm not terribly entranced with their looks but...but...but...
Mustang Sally Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Hey - Don't dismiss us Plain Janes so readily.... Sometimes there's some real fire lurking beneath that plain surface. Know what I mean? Good luck!
tanbark813 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 This isn't quite the same thing but I've seen girls at Renaissance Faires who look especially hot in Renaissance garb when I can tell they would look much more plain otherwise. I don't know what that's about. I guess it's just the nerd in me.

Tell me what you think of the singer in this interview (Julian Casablancas). He's not conventionally handsome, but there's something so sexy about his whole demeanor/vibe: Maybe it's just me but .
shadowplay Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 (edited) And even 10 times hotter performing: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wc0Pk4eg380&feature=related http://youtube.com/watch?v=ed6-hWF-mOo Those eyes...and perhaps the sexiest male voice ever. *Fans self* I just watched those Eddie Vedder clips, and, yes, he is rather sexy -- albeit rather sweaty. I find his passion and genuine sounding voice appealing. He seems to really feel what he's singing. That said I kind of lost some respect for him when I read he left his first wife for a model... It seems so out of character. Edited January 10, 2008 by shadowplay
Trialbyfire Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Shadow, don't be offended but I find him a little too young and not nearly as dynamic, passionate or intense as Eddie Vedder. I think that's what does it for me, for Eddie. He's never afraid to be edgy or if he believes in something, all that passion... Looks wise, I don't find either guy that impressive, your or mine.

I don't know what that's about. I guess it's just the nerd in me. sometimes plain is not a bad thing - tan is the only ls member that has met me in real life. i don't wear much makeup or have fake everything like most of the gals around here. i think of myself as plain mainly because i live amongst the bold and beautiful fake folks here in my area. but my friends that know and love me say i'm amazingly beautiful on the inside and out... i still think i love to look "plain." life seems simple and easier this way!
Citizen Erased Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 To use celebrities as examples, Russell Crowe, Eddie Vedder and Johnny Depp. I'm not terribly entranced with their looks but...but...but... I would agee with Russell Crowe in Gladiator, but not now. Stupid angry Kiwi I do love the Depp His partner is not exactly stunning, she is slightly odd looking, but she is still beautiful.
Lizzie60 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I would say that Diane Lane is plain but yet very sexy. She has that 'je ne sais quoi'... For guys, I would say that Keanu Reeves is sexy.. I like his style... R. Crowe and J. Depp... I hate their greasy hair... they look dirty.
shadowplay Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 More examples of PLAIN/WEIRD SEXY 1) James Spader (when he was younger) 2) Al Pacino in and only in The Godfather 3) The character Jim from The Office (American version) 4) Christian Slater when he was really young 5) Joaquin Phoenix 6) very young Jack Nicholson (in his Five Easy Pieces days)

Storyrider Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I don't see how anyone who has made onto the big screen as a leading man or woman can really fit the profile of what the OP meant by "plain". They are all beautiful people compared to most of us. Now if you said Drew Carey or um, Hillary Clinton, that would be more authentically quirky.
KenzieAbsolutely Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 justin long and michael cera. don't ask.
StartingOver07 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I don't see how anyone who has made onto the big screen as a leading man or woman can really fit the profile of what the OP meant by "plain". They are all beautiful people compared to most of us. Agreed. Now if you said Drew Carey or um, Hillary Clinton, that would be more authentically quirky. I can't imagine that anyone has ever wanted to get jiggy with Hilary. To the OP: the best sex of my life was with a guy who was definitely not conventionally good looking, maybe even borderline ugly. But he just rang my bell, you know?
Leoni Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 2) Al Pacino in and only in The Godfather Hot, hot, hot!!!
Storyrider Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I used to have a crush on Craig Ferguson on The Late Late Show. He has this mischievous glint in his eye when he looks at the camera. But I don't really get the concept, in a way, of finding someone compelling and then going on to claim that they're unattractive. Does this mean that you accept society's norms at face value and view your own predilections as misguided??
birdmadgirl Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I'm not sure if you're asking specifically for celebrity examples, so this may not be what you're after, but soft-spoken, nerdy, average-looking guys (particularly if they're bespectacled) really get me going. I would pass up a conventionally attractive guy in a heartbeat for this type. The shy guy I've been posting about lately is about 5'4" in shoes (I'm 5'2") and looks a little bit like Michael Urie from Ugly Betty (minus the makeup and with a stronger jaw). I saw him (Shy Guy and not Michael Urie) walk outside the apartment this morning as I drove away. He was wearing his two-sizes-too-big black wool trench coat and a scarf over his pants that aren't quite long enough to reach the tops of his shoes. I can't be entirely sure, but I think my heart may have skipped a beat. For the record, though, I would do naughty things with John Krasinski. Rainn Wilson, too. Yeah, I said it.
Meaplus3 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Ok now! Don't attack me for saying this but George Bush! AP:)
birdmadgirl Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I can't imagine that anyone has ever wanted to get jiggy with Hilary. Someone did.
Citizen Erased Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Ok now! Don't attack me for saying this but George Bush! AP:) Isn't he a bit old for you? And I doubt Barbara will be too happy
Meaplus3 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Isn't he a bit old for you? And I doubt Barbara will be too happy Oh forget barb! If george is happy then I am!, lol!! AP:)

Is this what the commercial industry has done to the standards of beauty that even Russell Crowe and Diane Lane are considered plain but sexy? Im going to have to put a potato sack on my head and insist that Im not an animal
