Hiya

My best friend is suspecting that her hubby has a coke habit, she has asked me what to look for but I do not know as I have never dealt with a coke user before

Does anyone know signs to look out for?

Thanks in advance, she is here with me

look for white powder around the nose!! that's the most obvious one. also listen to the teeth, when you are high on coke, you have a habit of grinding the teeth. another thing to look for could be the general behavior when in a quiet place, user generally have trouble to remain relaxed and are pretty tense.

hope that helps.

how would his behaviour be when he was high or when he had not taken for a few days?

when he has not taken for a few days look for a shake in his hands, I was a user but have been clean for 5 years after my mom noticed that, when I was there on the weekends without using, my hands were shaking. when high, he should be tense, like hard to stay calm, anxious to move, talk a lot...

I found this:

Habitual users may show mood swings, depression, sleep problems, retention loss, communal withdrawal, and loss of interest in school, work, family, and associates. Additional signs of cocaine/crack use include: ecstasy (exaggerated sensitivity of well-being) dilated pupils rapid heart pace (tachycardia) anxiety nervousness hyperactivity combative or frenzied behavior fever convulsions hallucinations and stroke.

IME - mood swings are most common. Disappearing for hours at a time. When high he would probably talk a lot, about random things, and be unable to focus his attention for long periods of time. When he hasn't been high for a few days he would probably get antsy and irritable.

I just googled it and here are the main points: (taken from http://www.emedicinehealth.com/cocaine_abuse/page3_em.htm#Cocaine%20Abuse%20Symptoms)

  • varying degrees of euphoria; increased energy, excitement, and sociability;
  • less hunger and fatigue; a marked feeling of increased physical and mental strength; and decreased sensation of pain.
  • There can be talkativeness, good humor, and laughing. Dilated pupils, nausea, vomiting, headache, or vertigo (the sensation of your surroundings or yourself moving or spinning).
  • excitement, flightiness, emotional instability, restlessness, irritability
  • inability to sit still, teeth grinding, cold sweats, tremors, twitching of small muscles (especially of face, fingers, feet),
  • hallucinations (cocaine bugs, snow lights, voices and sounds, smells)
  • nasal irritation, nasal crusting, recurrent nosebleeds, nasalstuffiness, facial pain

I put those in bold that are to be observed easily, while the others might be controled by the husband.

 I really hope for your friend that he isn't. Cocaine is no joke.
