...a big black skull and crossbones tattooed on my neck. That'll make ya feel like a badass! I think every girl should do it. I just lay there thinking about how much tougher I am than your average boy!

And it looks hot, if I do say so myself. I'd totally want to go out with a chick with a big-ass neck tattoo. Now I just have to find some dorked-out nearsighted mad scientist type guy who agrees, and I'm set.:):)

HAHAHAHAHA that sounds so funny! Mad scientist with bad eyesight! I need one of those.

I heard the tats on the neck hurt terribly bad? I only have 2 nice sized ones on my back but have never thought of the neck. WOW:eek:

I don't know how to post a pic that wouldn't identify me -- I'd either have to link to my website or show my face. You guys will just have to imagine!

Also, it's not on the back of my neck, it's on the side. But I have one on the back of my neck as well. Actually, they're two of the least painful tattoos I've ever gotten! But then, after having my chest, ribs, hipbones, lower back, and inner arms (from pit to wrist) tattooed, nothing will ever really hurt again. At least not until I get to the backs of my knees. :)

why would you have to show your face to show a picture of the back (or side)of your neck...? hmmmm....curious............

All the pics she took show my profile. We didn't get any closeups. Sorry!

Well that does sound pretty hot. I only have 4, and they're all on my back, so I'm surprised the neck was one of your easier ones. Although I must say, one of mine my artist started to go up my neck a ways and I didn't mind it at all. Congrats on the tat! If I were a guy I'd dig it!

You could crop the photo - try http://picasa.google.com/ for a nifty free photo editor.

Uh, thanks, there, Lishy...way to knock me down when I've done something I view as positive. If you don't like tattoos, that's your deal, you don't have to say anything. As it happens, I got a book deal with a major publisher in June to write about being a woman who's been empowered -- and gotten over an eating disorder -- by the transformative power of being tattooed.

And incidentally, it's Haagen Dazs, with an umlaut over the first "a," not Hargen Dars.

Yes you are right, I am illiterate!

I have to ask why you think a skull and crossbones on your neck will make you more attractive?

I dont know you on here so i may be missing a huge issue you have and if I have then I apologise profusely (spell check?)

I didn't that comment to make you feel ugly (you sounded very confident) I just hate tattoos on women on arms or necks, but that is just my opinion!

Sorry if I offended!

Lishy, how much have you talked to tattooed women about the reasons they get tattooed? Have you read Armando Favazza's "Bodies Under Siege," or the RE/Search book "Modern Primitives?" I just really hate it when people who don't understand the very personal and constructive reasons behind getting tattooed -- especially for women -- say, "Tattoos are ugly!" without having informed themselves about the practice and the (often deeply spiritual) reasons why people do it. Also, how much have you studied the work of artists such as Anil Gupta, Hannah and Guy Aitchison, Tim Kern, Emma Porcupine, Vyvyn Lazonga, Philip Liu, Chris Garver, and Steph Tamez? How many of the articles on bmezine.com have you read?

As for tattoos on the arms and neck, this is my second neck tattoo, and I have full sleeves. I love taking things people view as traditionally male and subverting that, making people think. I have 150 hours of tattooing on my arms. That makes me feel incredibly tough, and very honored to live inside these beautiful artworks for the rest of my life.

This particular skull and crossbones is from a PSA that scared me as a kid. A lot of my tattoos are images that scared me as a child. Every time I get one of these tattoos, I feel a little bit stronger, a little bit less afraid, a little bit more like I am exorcising my demons.

Personally, there are a lot of things I find unattractive on women -- high heels, khaki pants, makeup, pointy-toed shoes, French manicures, fake tans, fake boobs, extreme thinness, blonde highlights -- but I don't tell women who like those things that they're "far from hot." Because, as a woman who concerns herself with alternative forms of beauty, I support their right to look however makes them feel positive about themselves.

And everybody, I'm sorry, but I don't have a closeup picture, and again, I really don't feel comfortable posting one here. I don't even know how to do it. But I do appreciate the enthusiasm of those of you who have asked to see one. Thank you for your positivity, open-mindedness, and support -- it really means a lot. ;)

As someone with tattoos I think that they are an expression of the self, and most who have them done have their own personal reasons to get them. As having freedom of expression I don't think there's anything wrong with men or women getting them. I too got one for a sort of "strength" symbol, sedgwick. Good for you:-)
