Teacher's Pet Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Yesterday, on her way to the dentist, my mother's car was hit (and apparently totalled) by a young-ish driver who barrelled out of a side street and tried to cut across 2 lanes of traffic. The front end and windshield of my mother's car were crushed in, but fortunately, the airbags deployed, and my mother has just a few minor bruises. Being the typical Jewish mother, she didn't want to worry her only child, so she didn't tell me about the accident (which occured in the early afternoon) until he got home from work at 7:30pm with a phone call that began "First of all, I'm ok....." When someone begins a phone call with those words, you know it's not going to be good. I even told her, "Why didn't you call me at work?" Her reply? "I didn't want to bother you." I replied "Mom, I'm a bartender, not a heart surgeon! Nothing I do at work can't be abandoned in an emergency!" She actually laughed. Well, she seems to be ok, she didn't even want me to come over and visit last night, but even knowing she's fine (and the insurance company will handle everything since it's plain that it wasn't her fault), of COURSE I'm worried. She doesn't even want to see me TODAY.. I"m supposed to spend Xmas Eve and Xmas Day at her place (we like to pretend we're goyim at times lol), but she told me not to "make such a fuss"... again, typical Jewish mother. Five minutes after I got off the phone, my gf (there, I said it) shows up and immediately attempts to molest me on my couch, which I quickly put a stop to.... something I have NEVER done to a woman before. LOL Could it be somewhere in me, I actually have a heart? LOL I'm just glad my mom's ok, and that, on this Holiday weekend, her car died for someone else's vehicular sins. I'm still worried about my mom, but that's just in my blood. Now, time to start my Xmas shopping. -TP oy, what a world
curiousnycgirl Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 I am so glad your mom is ok. Let me tell you, you might be a typical Jewish son, but your mother is anything but a typical jewish mother. My mother would have called immediately regardless of my work, regardless of what country I was in, and expected me to be by her side immediately. even better if her only son was there!
Ronni_W Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 ...on this Holiday weekend' date=' her car died for someone else's vehicular sins.[/quote'] Happy shopping and er, Merry Chanukah Christmas PS: Glad your mom's okay!
BlueEyedSarah Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Teacher's Pet, I'm glad to hear your mums ok! Poor lass. Some drivers are just in too much hurry to make it home for Christmas!
Author Teacher's Pet Posted December 23, 2007 Author Posted December 23, 2007 Thanks guys. Of course, my mother made it a "point" to tell me that she has plenty of food at her place (since she now has no car to go shopping with!).... I was about to just empty the supermarket of canned food to bring her, then I realized there must be enough frozen Tupperware containers of meatloaf and pot roast in her freezer to stock a fallout shelter. I think she'll survive until tomorrow night when I will be showering her with chinese food. (the traditional holiday food of the Chosen People) -TP funny, he doesn't look Jewish.
Ariadne Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Oh, She's ok and she's probably going to get lots of money. Enjoy the Chinese food dinner, Ariadne
