I have medium length hair now, in a bob cut and am unsure if I should let it grow out to its natural Julia Roberts circa "Pretty Woman" look (only w/ brown hair) or cut it short and edgier. I want to be age appropriate and still turn heads! What do you think?

I think short hair is great and easy to manage.. I like my guys hair to be short as well. I dont like my b/f hair to be longer than mine.. which it was at one point

I agree with Jilly, long hair is a sign of femininity and I think makes it easier for a guy to approach the woman since he won't get the first impression that short hair = she's controlling and thinks she's gonna wear the pants in the relationship.

Katie looks broken down, Vicky Beckham is in my opinion hideous, and I have no idea who Rhianna is, but I bet she looks dykish too! Seriously, it's that much of a turn off to myself, and all other guys i know. Women with short hair = women who like to have power and be in control ex; Hilary Clinton. Now i'm not saying it's a bad thing, (women in power) but i'm saying that a lot of guys will be turned off by it, that's it. Sure you'll find the occasional guy who might be down with it, but he's probably gay.

I've gotten a lot of compliments from men on my hair too, mainly that it makes me look unqiue in a good way, so I woudln't say short hair is always unfeminine... it can be a good decision if you do it right.

Vicky Beckham looks like a man, but then again, she does with long hair too, so she's a bad example. I have spoken with 6 different male friends of mine about this exact topic. All of them would choose long hair over short hair. Spookie, where are your male friend's coming to the forum with their opinions? Yes. Short hair *CAN* look good on RARE occasions. Celeberities are generally beautiful people. However, on the average person, it does look like crap. you will, most likely, look like a Dyke. But hey what do I know, I thought Cairodancer wanted advice from guys mainly, not women. So I'll leave this thread. It's your hair. Just remember, short hair takes a long time to grow back.
maynicholas Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 My 2 cents is that short hair can age a woman. I look young for my age (30) but when I was younger (24) and had short hair, I looked older than I do now. I didn't realize it at the time, but looking back at pictures I can see it is true.

I think that's pretty offensive both to women in general and lesbians specifally. But you're right. I shouldn't have said for her not to listen to you. You're entitled to an opinion. Men who said they prefer long hair on women see me and said that I changed their mind on that. My hairstyle is a shorter style, but wispy and feminine.

It's like anything else....do what's best for you and if it suits someone else as well....great! There are millions of people out there with millions of preferences. Do what YOU want and you'll reel in the guy who's just right for YOU. And for the record I've had very short hair and very long hair, but never have I been without at least one guy around who thought I was a knockout. I even had one guy, who had a mad crush on me, begging me to get my hair cut super short (and it was already really short at the time). I got lots of compliments from men and turned plenty of heads when I had short hair and when I had long hair. Any guy who is threatened or thoroughly turned off by something like a hair cut isn't worth the time of day. Period. You don't want him anyway!

I think it looks a bit tinky (low class). As for myself, I like a couple of inches past jaw length and layered because that's what I and my hairdresser feel suits my face and my personality best. I'm sure a lot of men do only like long hair. That's fair enough. I won't criticise anyone for having a personal taste, but much as I like men...I'll do my own thing when it comes to clothes and hair. Men know what their own ideal of feminine beauty looks like, but in general the individual woman has a more realistic idea of what actually suits her.
Florida Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Aesthetic opinion here: Curly hair a la julia roberts mixed with a short haircut is not a good combo-don't do it! Curly hair to be at it's optimum should be medium to long-try a few layers in it instead- stay away from short. It will curl up and I haven't seen a woman ever look good with short curly hair. It's not being used to it's full advantage. Most women with short hair cuts that are pulled off well tend to have straight or lightly wavy hair. Did you go through a recent break up? A lot of times that is where the urge for the short hair cut comes from initially (I know from personal experience!-I used to have short hair- not flattering for my face)

Women with very long or very short hair were looked at as not as intelligent as those with medium length hair...... google it. It might be on the mark as I found I make a snap judgement as well. Nothing worse than an old lady with hair down to her ass either! It is ok if she has hair on her ass though, that happens when you age.
bogota Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I think short hair looks great on most women, although I tend not to see it so much with the 30-year-olds; mostly on women older or younger than that. But I don't think that's a reason not to do it. If you're not sure, you could try photoshopping some short hair onto a picture of yourself. Some websites will even help you with this, although fortunately I've never needed to make use of it so I can't think of any off the top of my head.

First, let me say that they also say people with curly hair are not taken seriously and to be honest, that just isn't true. Who the hell cares? Get the haircut YOU want. Never run your life by other peoples standards, not when it comes to petty things such as hair. If you have a small oval face, shorter hair looks good. If you like it, get it. Hair grows back and maybe it will help weed out the shallow men.
