Zamolxis Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 In college I have really been a study nerd and didn't really enjoy much of a social life. Now I'm full-time employee and just finally decided I would like to get to know and date some girls. My main problem is I really have no idea how to flirt. I get the basic idea about striking small talk with other people and being friendly, but I really suck at the body language and smiling part. So pretty much I think most of my conversations seem like some sort of interrogations, and don't seem playful. So I was wondering are there good movies that involve lots of flirting where I might watch and try to learn some? P.S. I haven't seen any topics about flirting on this forum and if there is a search function, I did not find it. So maybe we just might make this into a thread about everything related to flirting.
Lovegod Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Watch any James Bond movie But if you want specifics, treat her like she's your bratty little sister. Make fun of her while you're smiling, poke her in the ribs, tickle, pat her on the head like a good doggie, basically anything that's fun and involves touching.

Hehe, thank you; I'll watch some more James Bond and actually pay close attention now. Though I don't have any siblings and the family I'm from is really "formal": my parents have a good marriage but I have NEVER seen them being flirty with each other Maybe I need to make friends with families who have lots of siblings
Phateless Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Watch any James Bond movie But if you want specifics, treat her like she's your bratty little sister. Make fun of her while you're smiling, poke her in the ribs, tickle, pat her on the head like a good doggie, basically anything that's fun and involves touching. Think playful banter. Watch "Gilmore Girls" and the way the mom and daughter relate to each other is very similar to flirting. Gently tease her, make fun of her (not mean) and basically act like she is the one who is trying to get you, and it will all make sense. Have fun with it and do NOT worry about what happens. If you accidentally offend someone, then you know that you pushed it too far and you can recalibrate for next time. Nicknames are fun too. I like to call my female friends Punk, Little Girl, Girlie, Dork, etc. It's all in how you play it off. btw there IS a search feature and there have been some good threads recently that I remember posting in. Find them. edit - always keep it fun, but after a while, once you get comfortable with each other, quit making fun and start getting real. The bonding is important.
Carmen87 Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Flirting gets to be easier and easier. Nicknames are always a safe way to go. Guys call me girlie, darling, dork, etc and it tends to make you feel noticed. Playful pushing and poking can be fun as well. Lots of smiling and eye contact are essential.
nashua Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 EYE CONTACT!!!! Make sure she sees you staring at her, and hold it until she gets embarrassed and looks away. I'm not a huge fan of the little sister thing, but a little teasng is good advice. I wouldn't poke anyone. Touching is a good idea...maybe brushing her as you walk by or something. Give her a flower, or buy her a sweet treat withuot her asking for it. Just so she knows you are thinking of her. Even a cup of coffee or tea! BUT KEEP THE SENSUAL EYE CONTACT!

Citizen Erased Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Think playful banter. Watch "Gilmore Girls" and the way the mom and daughter relate to each other is very similar to flirting. I will never be able to watch GG again without thinking theyre flirting with each other
Phateless Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I will never be able to watch GG again without thinking theyre flirting with each other LoL, mission accomplished! Come on, you know Lorelai is hott! Although Alexis Bledel is my number 2 dream girl. Natalie Portman is number 1.

Phateless Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Oh they are both hot. But seriously, Natalie Portman? Dead serious. Women like Jenny McCarthy and Pamela Anderson gross me out to no end. Back to the OP - Coco, what were some of the most effective flirting techniques you've encountered from a guy?
topsekkrets Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Sounds like you need to watch the 40 year old virgin
Trialbyfire Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 The movie Hitch, will give you some ideas. The scene on the front porch with the goodnight kiss was a classic.

There is actually a lot of good advice in there, and one of my favorite quotes came from that movie. "begin each day as if it was on purpose."
