nadiaj2727 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Has anyone seen the movie Matchpoint? I bought it because I like Woody Allen movies and Scarlett Johansen... and it had a cute actor in it lol. I didn't realize it was about the "other woman"!! It was so eerie how I could relate to many parts of it. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it.
Impudent Oyster Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 It's a very good movie, but I don't think the OW will like it! Anyway, it's great, and certainly paints an accurate, albeit scary, portrait of affairs.
LucreziaBorgia Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 I thought it was a good movie. Chilling storyline, but a well done film.
MrsHellnoFire Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Yes, it is good. Who knows what one is capable of when backed in a corner and risks losing it all. His wife's family accustoms him to this ravish lifestyle. Of course the guy doesn't love anyone but himself.
head.heart& hand Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Hi Nadia ( and all) No I haven't seen it --I'll be sure to rent it soon. So as long as we're on the subject, have you ever seen the old classic "Same Time Next Year"? Gosh I haven't seen this in years so I may have to pick this one up as well.
Virgo1982 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Has anyone seen the movie Shattered? I think everyone can appreciate that movie-especially the ending. Most movies take affairs to the extreme, but there is always a lesson to appreciate, like Fatal Attraction. I couldn't even begin to understand that movie in my younger days. Revisited, I see more elements than I did before. Glenn Close's character was still a basket-case though.
White Flower Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Thanks for all the great movie titles ladies. I'll have to rent them all when H is outta town.
Author nadiaj2727 Posted December 1, 2007 Author Posted December 1, 2007 Who knows what one is capable of when backed in a corner and risks losing it all. Of course the guy doesn't love anyone but himself. In regards to your first comment -- yes, I guess when reality hits and people wake up, they can go to extreme lengths to try to dig themselves out of trouble. I liked how it ended though (no spoilers here because you can see that karma is still coming and the worst punishment is a bad conscience!! In regards to your second comment -- yes, that point came across loud and clear, I was like how can this man be so selfish?!?!?!
Author nadiaj2727 Posted December 1, 2007 Author Posted December 1, 2007 It's a very good movie, but I don't think the OW will like it! Anyway, it's great, and certainly paints an accurate, albeit scary, portrait of affairs. I don't think the ending is very accurate, that's pretty Hollywood dramatized for me... like, what someone might THINK about doing or WANT to do, but not ACTUALLY do. The scenes where the MM and OW were together felt very accurate to me though -- very passionate and heated and close and what feels like "love" but obviously is not, in the end. But that scene *definitely* made me remember how I could have fallen for xMM in the first place. *sigh*
Lyssa Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Has anyone seen the movie Matchpoint? I bought it because I like Woody Allen movies and Scarlett Johansen... and it had a cute actor in it lol. I didn't realize it was about the "other woman"!! It was so eerie how I could relate to many parts of it. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. I've seen it and I love it! I love both the cute actors - Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Matthew Goode - sigh. I really enjoyed the movie. Another movie would be 'Unfaithful' with Richard Gere, Diane Lane and Olivier Martinez.
Gwyneth Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 How about a Perfect Murder and Unfaithful? These movies are about the OM and cheating wife, and the OM dies in both films, unfortunately.
GreenEyedLady Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 How about Premonition? Isn't there a lesson for MM there?
Chrome Barracuda Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I saw matchpoint and it was a very deep and good movie. The MM was an a**hole! But you know what I could tell scarlett as the OW was insane. The more he tried to get out of it the more crazy she got. To him it was all about her coochie but to her she wanted to be his soulmate. All those lines and looks and words, she fell for it, hard! That's why I tell these OW here to go find a single dude to mess with. And you want to know the most trifling thing is she was the X-girlfriend of the MM's wife's brother! That's how they met in the first place! Chick was trifling as hell!!! Although she deserved to get beat up, a shotgun to the face was just a messed up way to die. But the MM knew that if she had the baby his life would be ruined. And you want to know what at the end he has to live with the fact that he killed an innocent woman in cold blood without any form of consequence. And he got away with it to. Sad story.
Adreanna Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Sad yes, but I don't think any OW here would learn anything from it. Of course they will say "that happens in the movies"... where do you think these producers/writers get their stories from?
White Flower Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 How about a Perfect Murder and Unfaithful? These movies are about the OM and cheating wife, and the OM dies in both films, unfortunately. It's always sad when Olivier Martinez dies, no?
Lyssa Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 It's always sad when Olivier Martinez dies, no? It's always sad when good looking actors die..
Chrome Barracuda Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 It's always sad when Olivier Martinez dies, no? You know what, I am a big movie buff. And in unfaithful I never saw that one coming, that came out of left field!
frannie Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Or what about some classic literature if you're looking for stories of people involved with married lovers? Try the Tenant of Wildfell Hall (Anne Bronte), Jane Eyre (Charlotte Bronte), or of course Madame Bovary or Anna Karenina if you're looking for tragic endings .
marlena Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I am a Woody Allen fan! Yes, I'd say it was one of best recent films. Yesterday, I saw "Cassandra's Dream". I think WA had Greek tragedy in mind when he made this flic! The usual existential angst without any comic elements this time. Good acting! The script not his usual witty stuff. Both excellent films!
redplanet Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Or Camille Claudel, a French film about Rodin's mistress.
frannie Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Or Camille Claudel, a French film about Rodin's mistress. Or read about the writers George Eliot and Mary Shelley, both of whom were Other Women.
OWoman Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Or read about the writers George Eliot and Mary Shelley, both of whom were Other Women. Seems to happen a lot around creative people. I suppose those types just can't fit the straitjacket of societal norms and expectations.
White Flower Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Or Camille Claudel, a French film about Rodin's mistress. I so related to this one! I wanted to burn all my paintings! But I didn't. But seriously, when she looked up at the windows of their house.....God. Tough stuff. By the way, Claudel made Rodin who he was.
White Flower Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Seems to happen a lot around creative people. I suppose those types just can't fit the straitjacket of societal norms and expectations. I often wonder if painters like Berthe Morisot or Mary Cassatt were OW. It was said that Mary Cassatt was always seen with Degas. They were obviously friends and fellow painters, but it's always suggested they were more than that.
