shadowplay Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 If you're in a fairly new relationship and have exchanged the L-word, how often do you say it? I know it varies from couple to couple, but I'm just curious about what people's experiences have been. Several times a day...once a week? It seems like my bf and I say it to each other a lot (several times a day when we're together), but it feels natural to. I'm worried, though, that the words will lose their power through overuse.
shadowofman Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 They will lose power, but there is nothing you can do about that. Even saying it less will do no good. Over time, they will lose power. IMO, only seperation will keep those words strong.

We say it several times a day. At the beginning (the first month or so) it was every freakin' hour (sometimes every minute there'd be little bunched-together bursts of "I love yous" - it would escape my lips as if it had a life of its own! He'd blurt it out too at the oddest times). I tell him I love him every time I talk to him on the phone (we talk 5 times a day - we're in an LDR). He does the same. It feels natural (not forced). Depending on the situation and my mood, his "I love you" sends rivulets of pleasure down my spine...and other times, I feel warm and fuzzy. And then there are times when its "nice". I'd be alright with the frequency diminishing. It comes with the whole comfort zone thing. I wouldn't be alarmed. What would bother me is if I didn't feel anything when I heard those words (consistently) or if I felt he were forcing himself to say it (or vice versa).

Ocean-Blue Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 hehe thanks. Yes it is. We just had a bad week so hopefully it just makes us stronger I hope the frequency of your "I love yous" continues to your liking. There is nothing like the exhilarating lift of hearing your man's voice uttering those words in a state of passion.

I'm sure they will, he;s being very sweet to me Oh I totally agree, nothing like it at all...
Author shadowplay Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 Maybe it's just me but I especially love it when he says those words during sex or right after. It's like our physical and emotional worlds become one. Another favorite is when he says it totally unexpectedly or when his voice quivers a bit when he says it. *sigh*

But I do love it when he talks during...sigh...

But during... well its not the time for any talk but dirty LOL

Mmmm...all this talk is making me feel warm and fuzzy. I miss him, even though I just saw him a day and a half ago and I'll most likely be seeing him again tomorrow. (What's wrong with me? ) I can't imagine what you must be going through, OB. When are you seeing your boy again?

I also have to figure out what to cook, etc when he's here.

The longest I've gone without seeing my bf is two weeks and it felt like an eternity. I know I have no right to complain given how long other people have to wait. You'll probably find that it gets harder as the day draws nearer -- sort of like when you really have to pee and the last few seconds as you run to the toilet are the hardest to hold it in. Sorry if that was too graphic. Do you find that he's almost always in your thoughts? Maybe I'm just obsessive but I think about him ALL the time.

But having exams, etc sort of make me dread his visit (b/c by then I'll have been done with the papers, etc...I have no idea how I'll get to that point!). Also, the apartment needs a good cleaning (I have a zillion pop cans here). I do think about him OFTEN. I can't get over the whole chemistry thing we have...so I obsess about that. But sometimes I think I think so much about it that I question it...which isn't a good thing. But yes, I do think about him many times during the day/night.

We've been together (LDR) for a year now and we still say it several times a day! I don't feel like we're both forced to say it - it just comes out naturally for us. Sometimes we both say it at the same time!

It's like our physical and emotional worlds become one. Another favorite is when he says it totally unexpectedly or when his voice quivers a bit when he says it. *sigh* I'm sighing, too! I would love to hear those words during sex, during some passionate moment, when the physical, sexual, emotional worlds collide. My ex-H never said it to me during or after sex, and my current bf and I are not "in love" - the words have never been exchanged. Shadowplay, I think you should say those words whenever you feel like it; they won't lose their power, but they way they feel may change and mature, just like the relationhip. Awww, you all are so lucky!
