so, i broke up with my long-time gf a couple months ago. we had broken up a couple times before, and each time was not NC, so we ended up breaking down and getting back together. this time, we agreed to be NC, but we agreed we would try to be friends or at least check in with eachother in 2 years. that is a long-ass time. who else has done this really long time limit for NC and then try to be friends after? does the time help the friendship to be platonic afterwards? or is it just impossible to keep eachother in your lives after a romantic relationship?

It's been about a year of single and NC (with one or two exceptions) for my ex and I. I'm the one who's reluctant to restart contact, to tell you the truth. I'm feeling good, I'm confident, I'm having a blast meeting lots of girls... I don't want to screw with my head by talking to her (or risk it anyway). I think a year is better than two years. If talking to her again messes with your head, then go back to NC for another year. Or who knows, maybe after a year you'll both have learned and changed enough to be compatible this time?
