Dynamo Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Alright, I'm looking to revamp my wardrobe for 2008.. I have a lot of stuff that doesn't fit, needs replacement or I flat out don't like. I'd figure I'd ask around here to see what type of clothing ladies like to see men wearing - I'm a casual guy so casual clothes are what I'm really looking for, but honestly I don't have the best sense of fashion (What guy does? ) so suggestions are nice. I'm not into the thug / gangster look at all, so anything but that and I'll give it consideration I already have some good formal stuff so I'm mainly looking for casual, but I'll take all suggestions. Thanks
bigheartkindsoul Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Jeans are good staple need, few nice trendy t-shirts, polo shirts and jumpers. Nice trainers and some boots or shoes. The odd casual shirt, long sleeve IMO are useful too.
Blue Eyed Brain Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 My favorite topic, aside from sex: 1. Get a few pairs of whiskered or pre-washed jeans 2. Skull t-shirts or Ed Hardy T-shirts are really fun and hip. 3. Long sleeved button down shirts worn outside jeans is way hot (flip the cuffs over) - best designer for this is Robert Graham and 7 Diamonds 4. A great sport jacket (cashmere, leather or suede) will be great for this time of year. 5. I prefer casual shoes or sandals with this look instead of sneakers 6. NO BELTS 7. Don't show your socks (high waters, floods) - make sure the clothes you have fit. 8. Good grooming is vital (take the hair away from your nose, ears, eyebrows, etc.) Keep the hair on your head neat and cropped. 9. Hands should be smooth - use a non alcohol based moisturizing and cut your nails and cuticles. 10. Use a good lip moisturizer, just in case you get connected..... Good luck and report back to us what you purchased.......
Author Dynamo Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 Great, thanks for the suggestions! Anyone else like to add anything?
Trialbyfire Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 There are three factors that affect how you dress: Your age.Status of life (student, working in a conservative firm, working in retail, etc.)Financial status (can you afford Armani?)
IpAncA Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Your age. What? You mean you can't dress like a teen or have your pants down to your knees with your boxers showing when you like 30?
Trialbyfire Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 What? You mean you can't dress like a teen or have your pants down to your knees with your boxers showing when you like 30? While I'm not interested in what's underneath, I oh so desperately want to give it one big yank, just once, and watch someone run around with their pants around their ankles...
IpAncA Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 While I'm not interested in what's underneath, I oh so desperately want to give it one big yank, just once, and watch someone run around with their pants around their ankles... LOL!!
Lizzie60 Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I personally prefer a man in a flannel suit... crisp white shirt.. and a tie... but I also love a guy who wears good quality casual clothes and who gives some attention to details, to accessories. I would love nice casual wool pants, or tiny corduroy... (dark) with a nice turtleneck (wool or cashmere) and a nice wool jacket... a nice wool scarf that match and suede gloves... would complement and finalized the look (very French)
Lizzie60 Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 What? You mean you can't dress like a teen or have your pants down to your knees with your boxers showing when you like 30? That brought me a nice 'mental picture' of my last year's fling in Cancun.. when he left my room... half naked... only wearing large jeans, showing his designer's boxers.. a black tuque ... his long black hair...humm.... what a sight.
compassion42 Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I believe that when a man feels comfortable and confidant in what he is wearing, it doesn't really matter what particular style/brand he has on. It's all in how he presents himself. But if you want some specifics, I like how clothing from the Gap, Aeropostle, Hollister or Abercrombie look on men. Oh and while your at it, you may want to find a new fragrance for 2008-how a man smells is also very important.
IpAncA Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Ladies, what are some fragrances you like your guys to smell like? Depends. What smells good on some may not smell good on someone else. You sound like a man on a mission here. What's up?
Author Dynamo Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 Depends. What smells good on some may not smell good on someone else. You sound like a man on a mission here. What's up? Haha, you caught me. Well, I've sort of been neglecting my dating-side of life, I've been concentrating on school and my job a lot. So one of my new-year resolutions is to get my act together, get some better style (basically renovate myself; not that I'm not happy with my current self, but it just felt like time for change ) and get back on the dating scene. I figured I might as well start it a bit early!

Leahh Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I definitely agree with the abercrombie/ hollister/gap/ american eagle sentiment. I've also found that anyone that works there is more than happy to help you pick things out, or even female friends love helping guys out in the shopping department.
Trialbyfire Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Ah, now that you've mentioned that you're a student, how about Armani Exchange? Some nice, worn, loose bootcut jeans with a long sleeved waffle shirt, casual shoes or running shoes and a casual jacket (no blazers plse). Another look that's nice is a pair of khakis, casual shoes, untucked shirt buttoned about two or three buttons down, unbuttoned on the bottom, over a white or grey t-shirt.
amaysngrace Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I like how my BF dresses. Usually just board shorts in summer and in winter jeans, long sleeve tees w/ hoodies, skaters or uggs. But don't dress like that if it's not your verb. Cause then you'd be a poser.
Lyssa Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Raoul has a great selection of shirts and Zara as well - casual stuff.

Thanks I love sporty buttoning shirts. Casual blazers and fashionable sweaters are also very sexy. I prefer shoes to sneakers. I like H&M; they are affordable and you can find nice clothes there.
compassion42 Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I love Aqua Di Gio....mmmmmm. But I also really like SeanJohn/Diddy's fragrance called Unfogiveable or Unforgetable???? Can't remember which it is called but it's in a black square shaped bottle and smells great too.
lovesparis Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 i love men who at least look like they put thought into their clothing. long-sleeve button downs, untucked. jeans that at least come almost to the ground WITH SHOES ON doc martins layers can be good; getting a nice sweater, jacket or blazer to wear over the button downs. *remember if you wear brown shoes, wear a brown belt; black shoes, black belt. *black shoes, black socks; brown shoes, tan or white socks. nothing looks worse than black shoes with white socks. nothing wrong with the occasional hoodie, but i don't want to see it everyday. nothing wrong with the occasional jersey, but only on game day. as for cologne, you need to find that for yourself, or take someone with you. everyone's pheramones are different and some smell great on one person but like poo on another. one of my ex's wears original polo. and it is one of the most amazing smells on him, but he doesn't smell as good in polo blue. another ex got a bottle of polo and it just didn't work for him. another ex wore fendi, which smelled amazing on him, but it was a hand-me-down from his dad, who it just didn't work for. the best way to try out colognes is to go to the mall and smell them. the ones you like smelling, are the ones you should try out first. they usually have testers on the counter. test on your pressure points; inner wrist, and elbows. test no more than 1 on each point (max:4) walk around the store for an hour and smell them again (the scent may change as it mixes with your natural smells). good luck. and as another poster said; people look best when they are confident and comfortable in what they're wearing. find yourself.
CD111 Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Alright I agree with the rest of the girls, a good cologne is pretty important. However, don't go to the department stores and spray yourself with 10 different scents at once. You will reek when you leave. First you the little paper testers and then when you have narrowed it down to like three put a tiny bit on your skin, like your wrist and figure out which one you like the best. Let the scents soak in and sit there for a while before you decided Clothes- You have got to find your own style. Personally I don't like the guys that look like everyone else, but that's just me. Think about the kind of girl you would like to attract. Example. If you would like to attract a sophisticated career driven female, then you too must dress a bit more sophisticated. If you are artsy, and want to date a girl with similar interests you should probably show what makes you original. Fit is very important, for two reasons; a) does it fit your body type right and are you comfortable in it. You have got to go try on clothes. If you have a good friend that's a girl, take her with you. If she has a sense of style she will tell you what looks good and what doesn't. Jeans are a great start, you can wear them with almost anything. I personally don't like the untucked button-up shirt get-up because it's unfinished and unoriginal. Whatever you wear decent shoes are important. Get a pair of black and brown casual/semi-shoes a pair of trainers and you really can't go wrong. If you would like more advice we need to know a bit more about you and your personality before we can give you more advice.
Trialbyfire Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 One more vote for Acqua di Gio. I've yet to meet a man who didn't smell good wearing it. Très sexy...
Author Dynamo Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 Haha wow, I didn't figure I'd get so many responses, thanks everyone! I have a lot to think over. I think I'll go with the Acqua Di Gio for my new scent - I like it, and some of my lady friends have told me they liked it too so I figured why not I'm really liking all the clothing suggestions, I'll probably end up going shopping sometime towards the end of the month and I'll be sure to scout out what all you people have suggested - like many of you said it's hard to say until you see it on you, but thanks for giving me tips on what to look for! I'll probably drag along one or two of my more fashionable female friends, haha. If anyone else wants to add anything that's great too
Sean0775 Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Haha, you caught me. Well, I've sort of been neglecting my dating-side of life, I've been concentrating on school and my job a lot. I figured I might as well start it a bit early! Well, it's good to see you're doing this for the right reasons, that being because YOU want to. My ex went out of her way to try to get me dressing like a preppy college kid, complete with buying me clothes and a bottle of cologne she liked for my birthday. Needless to say, the clothes are collecting dust in my closet until I drop them at Goodwill, and the cologne is on my dresser until I remember to toss it in the trash.
