ohbrother Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Do devout Catholic woman have sex other than when they intend to procreate? It seems ridiculous to me that some women will only have sex a few times in their life, all because of religion.
Curmudgeon Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Do devout Catholic woman have sex other than when they intend to procreate? It seems ridiculous to me that some women will only have sex a few times in their life, all because of religion. I would agree that it would be self-limiting and unnecessary. That's certainly not been my experience and I'm a Catholic guy who was once married to a Catholic gal and knows many others.
quankanne Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 *know* as in the Biblical sense? Do devout Catholic woman have sex other than when they intend to procreate? It seems ridiculous to me that some women will only have sex a few times in their life, all because of religion. not to be mean, but where the hell did you get that kind of information? Catholic theology teaches that sex is much more meaningful than just getting your rocks off and deeper than as just procreation: It's the giving of oneself in the fullest sense to another person. And that can only take place freely and fully when you're in a committed monogamous relationship of marriage. do a webcrawl on 'natural family planning' – it's the Church's accepted method of delaying or achieving pregnancy based on a woman's fertility cycle and completely brings the man into the picture because he is a conscious partner in the act of conception.
JamesM Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 As a Protestant, I cannot give an opinion from being married to a Catholic, but having dated two Catholic girls (no, I did not have sex with them), their actions and words did not give me the impression that I would only be eligible if I was ready to father a child. And having been/am friends with Catholic men and women, I have never gotten the impression that they only "did it" to have children. Where did you get that info...or rather, did somebody use that as an excuse to you? (Joke, quankanne, no offense to Catholics).
quankanne Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 hah! I was one of those slutty Catholic girls once I moved far, far away from home, so I'm thinking on the same lines as you James: Someone played the religion card to get out of having sex. Or that someone is willingly feeding bad information to this poor guy!

I am not catholic, but I am dating one and she refuses to do anything more than kissing before marriage .. So I am thinking ahead!
Annacabana Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 If she is devout she wouldn't be dating you. She would be with someone who shares her beliefs, don't you think?
quankanne Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I am dating one and she refuses to do anything more than kissing before marriage she's saving herself for marriage, a perfectly good goal, given her background. But that doesn't mean she's not going to attack her groom like a love-starved hornball
