Stereogram Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 When girls talk to me, involving all things me, I'm described as "cute". For example...this girl I'm kind of seeing had one of her friends tell her that I was "cute". Now... What is the difference between "cute" and "hot"? What classifies a guy as "cute" and what a classifies a guy as "hot"?
MsArtful Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 It's a matter of personal taste really... When I describe someone as cute, I usually mean there's something about their personality which is endearing. "Hot" is used for someone I don't really know. Being called cute isn't a bad thing at all, it's a good thing actually. Don't think too much about it:)
Trialbyfire Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Hot = Let's do the horizontal Mambo. Cute = Attractive.
reelwoman Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I think one can be both cute and hot. Cute does tend to mean endearing, sweet, vulnerable in some way---hot is definitely sexual. neither has anything necessarily to do with attractiveness in terms of looks. I have definitely felt both types of qualities in the same person, and if I find someone really cute I can often end up also finding them very hot. So don't worry about it---it's a good thing. it's not like being cute like a kitten.
pandagirl Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I'm all about cute! For me Cute is, "i-want-to-make-out-with-you-AND-i-like-you-too." Hot is more like, "i-just-want-to-bone-you."
Author Stereogram Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 Well thanks for the replies. I also sort took it as backhanded. As in "your cute" in sort of loveable loser way.

Krytie TV Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Cute is usually a bad word. Women use that in the *pat pat* "aren't you cute" kind of way that means they have absolutely no sexual interest in you.
AriaIncognito Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I think cute is a positive thing. I'd never personally date someone who was "hot", just isn't for me. I like cute, and my bfs need to be the same cuz I'm not "hot" either.
BenefitOfTheDoubt Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I agree with the above posters regarding the connotations of "cute" (kinda sweet and endearing) and "hot" (attractive in an raw and edgy and maybe even a little dangerous kind of way). However, in my experience, I'd add that whether or not it's good to be "cute" depends on how old you are. If you're in high school, you're probably out of luck. At that age, the girls are too busy trailing after the hot boys who will break their hearts. Cute, unfortunately, is the kiss of death in high school. You've probably got a ton of girl friends (emphasis on friends) if you're cute in high school. If you're mid-20s or older, the girls are normally pretty well over hot boys (some are downright wary of them) and they're looking for cute. Someone who makes them smile and feel safe and someone who gives them warm fuzzies and with whom they can actually seem themselves having a meaningful relationship. If you're in the badlands of college or early 20s, good luck to you! Nobody knows what they're looking for at that age, so it doesn't really matter whether you're cute or hot -- it's gonna be a bit spazzy any way you slice it!
Author Stereogram Posted October 30, 2007 Author Posted October 30, 2007 Well...I'm 28...so that means I'm in good shape!
Blue Eyed Brain Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Cute = Toby McGuire Hot = Dylan McDermott Need I say more????
carrotgirl Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Cute = Toby McGuire Hot = Dylan McDermott Need I say more???? Yah, cute and hot are very subjective! I am in the pandagirl boat. Cute is you're attractive plus likable. Hot is it doesn't matter if you're cute or likable..... Carrot
DateAnalyzer Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 At this point in my life I wll take CUTE with no problem-lol
halfarock Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I’ve always taken “cute” as a compliment. My girlfriend, who is my greatest fan, is always telling people how great I am. Somewhere in there she always says, “and he is ooohhh sssoooo cute!”
squeak Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I would rarely describe a guy as "hot", it has a raunchy sound to it. And I would never tell a friend her guy was "hot", that sounds too much like "I want your man". I would only use "cute" to let my friend know I supported her taste. I doubt most people think as much about the way something is said as I do, and it's connotations in any given situation. Maybe you should just ignore my input. Seems like you may be looking for some validation between which are the better of the two.

What classifies a guy as "cute" and what a classifies a guy as "hot"? Different girls vocabulary IMO, I tend to use cute when wanting to get with a guy thats just me, Hot is used for when you are never gonna in a million years get with a guy because he is miles away. I also use handsome, lovely, or describe a feature I genuinely think is great like eyes or smile etc.
Krytie TV Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I think you all are lying to yourselves. Cute is not a term for physical attraction.
bigheartkindsoul Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I think you all are lying to yourselves. Cute is not a term for physical attraction. Tis for me
shadowplay Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I think you all are lying to yourselves. Cute is not a term for physical attraction. So not true. Cute is the way I describe a guy I am sexually attracted to. I never use the term hot because it sounds slutty and gross to me.
bigheartkindsoul Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 So not true. Cute is the way I describe a guy I am sexually attracted to. I never use the term hot because it sounds slutty and gross to me. yes hot does have a sexually charged ring to it, so tend only to use once in a relationship or like I said to guys I am never gonna ever meet.
Sand&Water Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 RE: Does it matter, Stereogram? The words "cute" and "hot" are both positive attributes of a man. You are a man and you are, also 28, old and mature enough to understand that a compliment is a compliment without having to pick-and-choose which of the two words is better than the other. Carry-on with your strong confidence. Nothing should dent your self-esteem when you are dating and having the time of your life. Sand&Water
birdie Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I use both terms for the same person sometimes. definitely call him 'hot' when I am getting in the mood and want them in bed but the same person can be 'cute' when his is doing something boyish. so as others said before, it depends on the situation. calling someone 'hot' is not always appropriate, especially out of bed.
birdie Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 So not true. Cute is the way I describe a guy I am sexually attracted to. I never use the term hot because it sounds slutty and gross to me. getting slutty with a hottie is the best thing in the world
BlueEyedGirl Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I would never tell someone that he is hot, that just sounds too sexual, suggestive and cheap. I would at the very most tellsomeone that I am very attracted to that he is cute in a joking way. But that's just me. So for me cute means: and hot I only use when discussing celeberties and guys I will never actually meet with girlfriends.
