Magnatolia Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Hi all, I get to meet loads of new people because I work in a lot of different places. In a work situation I find it impossible to deliberately strike up a conversation with someone unless I am directly involved with them (sharing a task, being introduced, etc). No doubt this probably comes across as not interested in them or just plain rude. But I find it really hard to actually go up to someone or even to stop by their desk unless one of the above reasons occurs (or they start talking to me). Quite a few people that I do chat with that I have nothing to do with have actually started talking to me. And then from that point I am much more comfortable stopping by and saying hi. Any thoughts? Advice? All is welcome. Thanks

Let them answer. That's all you really need to do. Both ends of your party can tend to be afraid of being open, you have to realize that. You're not the only one shy about striking up conversation. Maybe those people from work just gathered enough courage to strike up conversation with YOU after a while of contemplating.
