alli02 Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 i need help...i am trying to potty train my 2 year old boy. his father and grandma have been helping when they have him and they both say he tells them when he needs to go...but never does this for me!! what am i doing wrong?? i just need some advise, i am a single mother and dont know what to do. any ideas are welcome
Hurt & Alone Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 If he does not tell you he has to go then you should ask him about every ten to fifteen minutes if he has to go. Eventually he will learn to come to you when he has to go. Do you have a child step stoll in front of the toilet for him. If not try one that is fun like one that plays music when it is stepped on.
ravenstar Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 the main thing is to not get frustrated. i just finished potty training my child. we started with her when she was two and finally (a year later) we have success. we also have a split family and with children who go between two households potty training seems to be a bit more difficult. the daycare my daughter is enrolled in offered a lot of support and helped tremendously. ask him often. (every 30 min) make it a HUGE deal when goes. we offered small toys or special coloring books. another thing, my daughter wanted to go swimming in the "big pool" with her cousins, we told her she had to use the potty and wear panties to be able to swim there. that was BIG incentive. i am happy to say she did egt to swim with her cousins. (everytime she would potty she would say "now i can swim in the big pool!") remember it will take time. there will be accidents. evntually he'll get the hang of it.
Saxis Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I agree, make some kind of incentive for going potty. We gave our daughter 2 M&Ms or Gummie Bears for going #1, and 4 for going #2. She learned pretty quickly, because we never really gave her sweets otherwise.

Maybe during my next annual performance review I can talk my boss into giving me candy for dropping deuces at work.
