spookie Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Sometimes when I'm alone on my computer I do things that I wouldn't if someone were watching Like cyber-stalking. I was bored one day so I logged on facbeook and looked at photos of the guy I'm dating. A couple were really cute. I saved them to my desktop, labeling them as "Phil", "Phil2", and "Phil-shirtless". Then, still bored, I googled his name. Nothing came up - it's too popular - so I proceeded to google his brother, his sister, both his parents, and a couple of his friends. Creepy right? Well, last night he came over. I thought I had cleared my private internet data prior to, but the search bar at the top apparently hadn't gotten cleared, and while he was using it he said, "I noticed you googled both my brother and my dad." And then he noticed the photos, about which I had completely forgotten. I felt so awkward I wanted to die.
Lyssa Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 OMG! I'm sorry but I kinda laughed reading this. I do not cyber-stalk nor do I stalk in RL but I have thought about "what if I cyber-stalked someone..." and just like what happened to you - that person came and found out you stalked... mann... I wouldn't know what to say...
tanbark813 Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Big deal. I google every girl I date. If I found out a girl did what you did I'd be flattered.
Art_Critic Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 There is nothing wrong with doing what you did.. Yes.. it is a little embarrassing that he caught you.. but chances are he has done the same to you.. The internet is public.. and as long as you were just trying to figure him out.. find out who he really is then there isn't anything wrong with it.. You weren't cyberstalking.... just doing a little background on a guy you're dating..
Art_Critic Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Big deal. I google every girl I date. If I found out a girl did what you did I'd be flattered. Same here...I did when I was dating that is...
tanbark813 Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 So can I cyber-stalk to you guys? If that's you in your avatar then hell yes.
Author spookie Posted October 4, 2007 Author Posted October 4, 2007 He didn't seem to think it was a big deal either, which surprised me. I was expecting him to be thoroughly creeped out that my search record is basically a list of all his family members, but he just thought it was funny. And he was really flattered by the photos. This incident sorta broke the "cool" I was attempting to maintain. Now he knooowwws I like him.
Art_Critic Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 He didn't seem to think it was a big deal either, which surprised me. He was thinking to himself " If she only knew how much I have goggled her".. " Mental note to self.. make sure I clear my browser cache when I get home so if she comes over she doesn't know that I know about her nude pictures"

Its up to you to make sure he is constantly wondering how interested you really are! I dont think he would be creeped out... unless you were looking up other stuff, like places to hide bodies... or poisons or something!
tanbark813 Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I dont think he would be creeped out... unless you were looking up other stuff, like places to hide bodies... or poisons or something! Word. As long as you're not googling "how to tell your bf you have a penis" then you're good to go.
Author spookie Posted October 4, 2007 Author Posted October 4, 2007 Word. As long as you're not googling "how to tell your bf you have a penis" then you're good to go. It's funny you said that. I like to play a game with strangers sometimes where I introduce myself a man going through hormonal therapy on his way to becoming a woman. I clutch my "penis" throughout the story and everything. I was doing that the night we met.

Star Gazer Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Big deal. I google every girl I date. If I found out a girl did what you did I'd be flattered. Really? Well then, ..... I agree though. I do this with every guy I date, but it would be embarrassing to have him come across such evidence on my computer. That said, I don't Google friends and family members.

Yah, it's definitely the googling of friends and family that pushed me into creepy I think. That's the part I was embarrassed about.
Stacid Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 I used to do this type of thing for a living, so its sort of second-nature now. I think it's good to check up on people, you'll find out some things that can help you make decisions about whether you want to proceed in a relationship. I make it a policy not to look up my friends and family, but I do check out every guy I date, and here's why: I once dated a guy for a year. I employed the "no checking" policy. After we broke up, I Googled his e-mail address, just to see what would come up. To my shock and surprise, the first two links were to adult personal ads, with him looking for men to mess around with. They had photos of him naked. As he had never mentioned any gay or bi tendencies in our relationship, I was completely shocked! I really think God spared me from staying involved with this guy. Insane! If I had checked this out prior to getting more serious with him, I would have ended it and moved on, instead of wasting a year of my life. Knowledge is power.
