RyTom21 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Okay, I've reached a breaking point and I need some help. It's relating to myspace. I am constantly changing my profile. Part of it is my OCD, but the other part is that I'm afraid I'm going to meet a girl, and she's going to see my myspace profile and then not be interested in me anymore. I know this is stupid, but we do live in a VERY shallow society. For everyone who gets a chance to read this, I would love it if you could just take a look at my entire profile and tell me if their is anything at all that makes me seem weird or that you think would freak a girl out. Thank you!
woodsfield Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 dunno, man... maybe things are different in cali but i'm sure about the "bahama mama" drink. i live in the dirty south....don't listen to me! dude, just be yourself in life (and in myspace) and if she doesn't like you for that; then you don't want her. don't sweat it!
shoesies05 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 wow- okay your profile is fine... why are you so worried though about some girl becomming not interested in you any longer cuz of your profile. that worries me a cool background might be nice. i dunno- but its fine, nothing freaky! omg! ur soooo lucky, how did u the girls next door? i love bridget she's so cool and just like me haha.
Saxis Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Yeah, your page is fine. Better than fine actually. I like to keep things simple like that myself.
melodymatters Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 I agree, it's fine, simple and straight forward and doesn't take a YEAR to load, and then is so busy you can't read anything anyway. Unless you are going for a born again christian chick, who might not like drinking and playboy chicks, you are ok.
Jinnah Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Lol, you are funny. Don't worry so much about what other people think! Be confident in yourself. Don't you want someone who REALLY likes you FOR WHO YOU ARE? Don't hide things about yourself... BE yourself! Something to consider: do you really want people you don't know well viewing your profile? At least hide the city you live in or if you change your mind, make it private so no one can see it from the above link anymore... or maybe I'm just really paranoid. I guess anyone on myspace has been able to view it all this time. It's funny you live there... I just moved from that area.
Star Gazer Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 (We're almost neighbors!!!) Honestly, I find it a little boring...there's not much there to really explain who you are or what you're about. What about a funny narrative paragraph in the "About Me" section? Or include your schools, occupation, etc.? I'd also suggest you move some of the pics in your slide show into your pictures section. I think people pay more attention to static pictures than those that move.
shadowplay Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 you need more humor in your profile. i get a kind of uptight vibe.
shadowplay Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Ok, i'm going to be brutally honest. A few things do turn me off, but i can't speak for all girls...only myself. First off the music selection is a big turnoff for me. I dislike most mainstream country (with the exception of Johnny Cash), and since you live in California I doubt many of the girls you encounter will dig it either. So pick a non-country song, a classic country song that predates when the genre went to crap, or better yet don't put any song there if country is really all you like. I'd be willing to date someone who liked mainstream country, but I certainly wouldn't want it blaring out at me whenever I opened their profile. I think you should replace some of your pictures. You have way too many of you posing with "hot" girls you're obviously not involved with, which makes you look insecure and dorky. (And I'm not implying it's because they're out of your league, but it's obvious in a lot of the photos that you just posed with some girl you didn't know.) Photos of you chilling with male friends or friends in general would be better. Just not too many beer-guzzling, fratboy-esque photos. You look uptight in the one with your brother because of your posture. I also wouldn't pick many toothy grin pics since you have braces. The photo of your truck is tacky unless it has some sort of ironic caption to justify it. I like your face in the one where you're sipping the drink, but it needs a funnier caption. The picture of you with the tux on the front page is also nice. The photo of you as a kid is cute, but again needs a funny caption. I also like the Jurassic Park photos, and the photo of you with the birds. Take out the photo of you and your mom because it looks like you're trying too hard to appeal to girls. Also, I'd personally delete Adam Sandler from your favorite actors. But that's just me...

shadowplay Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Here's another quick suggestion: If you find a girl as picky as shadowplay, RUN LIKE HELL!!!! Haha...I knew that was coming! Frankly, though, I don't think I'm much pickier than most girls. In fact I think a lot of girls would nitpick on similar things in someone's profile but just not be upfront about it. It's different in real life when you see the full person, but it's easy to be superficial/dismissve when all you have to go on is an online profile with a few pictures and self descriptions.

I'll admit that I didn't go through his photos, except a few in the slideshow, and I didn't have my speakers turned on, so I missed the music. Looks like he's set to private now anyway. If you're using Myspace for dating, I agree; a bunch of hot girls might not be the way to portray yourself. I don't think the music is bad though... No sense hiding your likes/dislikes. That's the entire point of the profile...
tanbark813 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 since you live in California I doubt many of the girls you encounter will dig it either. Actually you'd be surprised how many chicks out here like country. It's almost annoying.
shadowplay Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Looks like he's set to private now anyway. Wow, that was fast... On second thought I think you're right about the music and not hiding his taste. I guess I'm against having any kind of music blaring on your profile...it's a pet peeve of mine.
Star Gazer Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Actually you'd be surprised how many chicks out here like country. It's almost annoying. Very true. I dig it. Some of it, anyway.
shadowplay Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Actually you'd be surprised how many chicks out here like country. It's almost annoying. Really...Are you talking Southern California or California in general? I know very little about the state except what I've gleaned from stereotypes and my brief visits to relatives there. I live on the East Coast and practically no one likes Country around here. And again I'm not saying all Country music sucks...I like Johnny Cash as much as the next person. It's just the mainstream, current stuff that grates on my nerves.
woodsfield Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Actually you'd be surprised how many chicks out here like country. It's almost annoying. bakersfield, home of western music. "O we got both kinds of music; country AND western."
woodsfield Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 I live on the East Coast and practically no one likes Country around here. you mean the NORTHEAST COAST, right?? Georgia, South and North Carolina and Virginia are still on the east coast. i live in NEGA and half the stations around here are country stations. well, pop-country.
tanbark813 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Really...Are you talking Southern California or California in general? Cali in general. There's even a country bar in this area called the Saddlerack that's pretty popular. Country songs are often requested at karaoke bars too.
shadowplay Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 you mean the NORTHEAST COAST, right?? Yeah, slip of tongue. I was thinking primarily the NY/Boston area
tanbark813 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 bakersfield, home of western music. "O we got both kinds of music; country AND western." Yeah. Central Cali is a whole 'nother world than SF or LA.
shadowplay Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Yeah. Central Cali is a whole 'nother world than SF or LA. My father's actually from a small town called Patterson, and he grew up with a Southern sounding twang that he's lost since.

I know very little about the state except what I've gleaned from stereotypes and my brief visits to relatives there. I live on the East Coast and practically no one likes Country around here. I've lived all over California, and there are country fans in every part. The least likely is SF, but there are still twangy tunes playing there as well.
woodsfield Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Yeah. Central Cali is a whole 'nother world than SF or LA. i've been to both, and compared to 'round here, it's all another planet to me.
Krytie TV Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 You know OP, many of us manage to be pretty successful in our social lives without ever having a MySpace page. Why create something for social reasons and then try to decide how it is hurting you socially. You could always not have one. you might be surprised how little you would have to worry about if you got rid of it.
