Has anyone here had sinus surgery to treat chronic sinus infections? If so, how was it? How long was your recovery? Etc. I went to an ENT for the second time today and am going for another round of catscans to see if this is even necessary, but at this point nobody seems to know why I get sinus infections like 4-5 times a year. Not good when you're a singer.

Any input would be appreciated.

Wow nobody here has had it? I'm shocked. Well hopefully this bump will make it so someone who's had it can answer :-)

I went for catscan number 2 today but i see no differences in the films. Guess I'll have to go back once I'm sick with another infection and see how it looks.

I have had a friend that just recently had a FESS done. Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery. She did very well. She had chronic sinus infections and she was off for about 2 weeks. The only complication she had was that she kept harshly irrigating her sinuses and tore the skin off her nasal bone. She had to be off for another week for that. You should be feeling good after a couple of weeks. Hope this helps.

I used to be very prone to sinus infections, but I did a couple of things that helped me. I started taking one Benedryl each night before bed. It is a good sleep aide anyway, and in addition it kept my sinuses clear. Secondly, at the first sign of a cold, even just a tickle in the throat, I would start taking Mucinex, which is an expectorant and thins your mucous.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't gone back to review the scan results yet.

Story - I already take Zyrtec D each day - so I shouldn't be adding anything on top of it. I also irrigate my sinuses with a solution when I remember. I try nightly but sometimes just dont do it. I'm taking allergy shots in hopes to get it all under control, but now that I took a job singing, i really can't afford to be getting a sinus infection every few months. I'm not sure what the deal is and neither are the doctors. They usually blame the allergies, and i'd tend to agree, but then since I started shots I'd hope i'd start getting a little better. Who knows.

Guess we shall see after my appointment this coming friday.

Thanks again for the input, both of you :-)

I have the same problem. I haven't had surgery although my dentist almost had me do it after my sinuses kept reinfecting my wisdom tooth sites. It was bad. My mother (the doctor) suggested that adenoid removal might help a lot- if I ever get the finances I'd like to do it. I'm constantly stuffy and mom thinks it might be contributing to my hearing loss as well. We'll see if/when I can afford it.

Keep me posted, I'd like to see how it turns out for you if you have the surgery.
