woodsfield Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 the W and i are going to a counseling session for the first time this Friday. it is a study at the local university and we are actually getting paid to do it! i'm really not sure what to expect. they require the couple to married for at least two years. they will cover subjects like personal finances and other "married folk" issues. anyone participated in one of these before??? anyone conduct one of these??? should i be worried about unprofessionalism from the therapists??? surely nothing but good will come out of it .
Cobra_X30 Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Did they tell you what the study is about?
Author woodsfield Posted September 18, 2007 Author Posted September 18, 2007 Did they tell you what the study is about? the wife has been handling it...i've agreed to do it but all i know is what i've posted. hmmmmm.......maybe it would be a good idea to find out.
Author woodsfield Posted September 18, 2007 Author Posted September 18, 2007 Did they tell you what the study is about? just asked and she said we are going to run thru a maze and get cheese at the end. what a jokester! they are trying to determine if it is better to go to a FINANCIAL adviser as well as a MARRIAGE COUNSELER instead of just counseling alone. sounds good to me!

Yes that sounds very beneficial. Which set are you in? are you in the control group?
Author woodsfield Posted September 19, 2007 Author Posted September 19, 2007 Yes that sounds very beneficial. Which set are you in? are you in the control group? soooo many questions ! i dunno, man. once again, would be good to find out or not? i'm just looking forward to be me and her talking about some things with someone else and getting paid......

LOL... I'm trying to point out that you may want to look into this. If your in the control group you may not get the financial advice... or there may not even be a control.

quankanne Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 naw, man ... hold out for the cheese. Just make sure it's a good cheddar or provolone, and not gubmint cheese  counselling +/- financial counselling: that's an interesting take on things! Maybe it's to see how the tools you get from MC affect financial advice? I do know that when DH and I went to a couples retreat, there was a segment on money/finances, but more along the lines of how to resolve situations rather than just fight about them.

quankanne Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 i'd hope they have a little wine, too. TWO-BUCK CHUCK!!! though according to my BiL, a wine conneseuer (aw hell, you know what I mean, professional wino!) says that it's some pretty good stuff ..

TWO-BUCK CHUCK!!! though according to my BiL, a wine conneseuer (aw hell, you know what I mean, professional wino!) says that it's some pretty good stuff .. it is...cause when you drink it, you say, "damn, this is only 2 bucks." but it is good/cheap wine, fashizzle.
Author woodsfield Posted September 22, 2007 Author Posted September 22, 2007 so last night was the first session. i wanted to put the name of the study down, but i'm sure if they would like that. it is being conducted by "students" who have masters and are working on Phd's. a say "students" cause i don't think of Phders as students, in the normal sense. they will be providing financial AND couple therapy to assess if they work better together....so COBRA, we are getting both and can see what the results of the study will be....probably be published in some magazines "one day". both the W and i got paid $10 last night for filling out forms....SWEET! BEER MONEY!
