*this could have been a rant, but I suppose it's more dating related*

So I spent a large portion of my daylight hours beating tracks in the city today. Spent a lot of time walking around amidst the bustle that is the great Northwest and I had an observation:

It's not surprising to me that meeting people can be so difficult at times. I realized that so many people spend so much time separating themselves from the world around them that it can be very difficult to engage with them. Between talking on the cell phone and listening to iPods, people have succeeded in making conversation and random interaction impossible. How do you introduce yourself to someone without being an annoyance if they are doing one of these two things?

I can say this because I don't do either. Maybe a cell phone call if it's work related, but that's all. So I guess I would say to all of you who gripe about how hard it is to meet people to look at yourself and see if you are one of the many of these aforementioned people. If you are, you need to decide which is more important. If you're not, good luck to you and keep pounding away ;)
