I already posted once before about walking in this office park at lunchtime and how people driving by will always stop and ask me directions and how since it happens so often, I've started to ignore them if I'm on the phone (it never stops them even when they see me on the phone).

I also mentioned how a few weeks ago, some guy kept yelling to me but I was on the phone and ignored him so he finally drove away. Then a half hour later I was walking in another part of the office park and same guy yelling to me and again I was on the phone and ignored it and he drove away yelling "B!tch!" In this case, the guy wasn't wanting directions, I'm sure.......he would have easily been able to find someone else to ask in all the time that had gone by.

Today I'm walking the same office park and I had gone to the gas station to get a couple of sodas and was carrying them in a plastic bag. I had on office attire (a casual skirt and blouse) plus tennis shoes, a hat and sunglasses. As usual, I hear a car alongside me slowing down.. I think to myself.....*SIGH* here we go again........

This guy in the car asks me if I need a ride.

Ok, I'm not on a public street....I'm in a huge office complex. I'm wearing office attire. I have on tennis shoes which means that I had INTENDED to walk. In fact, I may have even WANTED to walk (I DID!)

Here's another thing.....did the guy really think that someone my age would take a ride with him? Ok, maybe he couldn't tell my age. I'm in the same shape I was when I was 20 and I had on a hat and sunglasses. I just can't imagine a guy thinking that a woman my age would be that naive.

Now...this is one of those situations where my mind goes through one of those decisions between what I SHOULD respond with and what I WANT to respond with.....sort of like the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other kind of thing....

So, when the guy said "Need a ride?" my initial reaction was to say: "Need your testicles".

But that darn superego keeps me in check.....rats.

I responded with "No...I'm headed back to my office" (and I pointed to a building nearby)

I got back to the office and had a coworker check my back for a sign that said "Weirdo's Approach Me" but she couldn't find one. I went into the bathroom and looked at my forehead in the mirror but nothing was written on it.

You know...I think the next car that slows down to say something to me, I'm just going to turn and look at them and say: "Wait.....shhhhh....do you hear those voices TOO? Mind if I get in your car? They just told me they're going to be landing soon and I don't want them to find me!"

What do you think?

I've been a pedestrian for a long time, especially living in the SF bay area. Around here, it seems that ANY woman walking on the street is a potential hooker. And, no, I don't dress slutty (usually). I've had guys ask me if I want to "party" or if I want a "date" when I've been in my sweats. My woman friends and I call it the "hooker game" - how long does it take for the Johns to close in once you hit the sidewalk.

It's gotten to the point that when a car pulls up, I just yell "F-U NO!" It's funny to watch them burn rubber out of there.

This is a rather well-to-do neighborhood and it's not on a public street. It's in an office complex. I could see it maybe on a public street but even then, not in this neighborhood.

In my neck of the woods, it would all depend on what neighborhood you're in on whether or not someone would assume that women walking are hookers. Fortunately, I don't go to the neighborhoods like that. :D
