laRubiaBonita Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 so my BF of almost 6 months will have his 32 Bday in sept. after wracking my brain, and having to eliminate good possibilties, like NBA tix- since it is too early, i am thinking maybe a coffee pot/ grinder combo, the melitta- to be exact. he is a big coffee drinker and grinds his beans daily()... i know his grinder blades are starting to wear out. is this a bad gift? i mean it is something practical, but is something i think he, as an avid "good" coffee drinker, may appriciate. what do y'all think?
dropdeadlegs Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 The first gifts (Christmas) I gave to my guy were pretty practical, yet observant to his likes and needs at the same time. Since then, we have both adopted a policy of making lists, or catalog preferences, and that way we can still have SOME element of surprise while choosing gifts the other will actually appreciate. Since your man is into coffee, I think it's a great gift! I bought mine a deep fryer because he had mentioned, more than once, that he would like one. I also bought some things that were more "personal" based on conversations we had had. Some DVD"S and a particular boot polish he had mentioned.
tanbark813 Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Sounds good to me. Plus, I think guys are more inclined than women to enjoy practical gifts anyway.

My mother would balk at any kitchen device, she preferred personal gifts, but I've dated men that appreciated a pair of jeans because it was something they didn't have to buy for themselves and was still useful. I fall somewhere in between depending on finances.
blind_otter Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I think it's a nice, thoughtful gift, lRB. The kind that you actually put thought into and the kind of gift that matches the personality of the giftee is great. I gave a co-worker some books on scrapbooking for her birthday and she was over the moon about it. I thought it was a lame gift, but it so matched her interests and personality that it turned out to be a great gift. Who knew?

curiousnycgirl Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I think it is a great gift - but if he's a true coffee lover, rather than getting him a blade grinder, get him a burr grinder. It produces a far superior cup of coffee as the grind is way more consistent. Not sure where you live but Costco carries one (I believe Cuisinart) for under $30.00. GREAT idea though
