YOU ASK: "Should one person in a relationship go away for the weekend while the other is working??"

Well, if that person wants to and the purpose of the trip IS NOT to have sexual intercourse with another individual.

For what reason would you remain in town? To take pizza to your partner at lunchtime?

If the two of you go out on weekend evenings, I don't think going out of town on weekends should become a habit. Once in a while is totally fine.

In your other post, in another category but the same question, you added the fact that the two of you were living together.

I think that adds a slightly different dimension to the question. If you are in a committed relationship with someone and living together, you still have a right to do what you want but you have to be more sensitive and respectful of the other person and their feelings.

If the other person doesn't want you to go out of town and you have a good reason for doing so, you may want to take this as a sign of a jealous or controlling mate and review the relationship.

While living together doesn't take away your rights, it does require you to take more of the circumstances into consideration. You did not provide enough data in your post about your particular situation and the feelings of your partner to completely answer this question.
