A friend of mine has chicken pox :( Does anyone know how long it takes to clear up for adults? Is there anything she can do to make it easier? Thanks.

That sucks.

I had them at a late age I thought at 13. It was so awful. I think mine lasted around 2 weeks of agony. Then another few weeks of not so attractive healing. Real good on the self esteem at the sensitive age of 13.

Calamine lotion was my best friend.

Stress balls might be good or some kind of busy hand activity to avoid scratching.

During a bout with poison ivy I spend days wrapped in a sheet for fear of transferrence and spread of that evil little rash.

I have heard of oatmeal baths although I also heard that can make them spread.

Steroids maybe for the itching?

Gosh, that is a terrible thing. I hope she recovers soon.

Takes as long to clear up for adults as it does for kids---about 2 weeks. Things to take: Any anti-itch formulas will work, an anti-inflamatory (tylenol, etc..), rest.

It sucks. I got it as an adult.

Does he have chicken pox or is it shingles?

Get her to the Dr to get it checked out - and yeah ,buy tons of calamine lotion, aloe-vera and tell her to take baths with baking soda. It helps.

I still haven't had them. And thank God, judging by what you have all just posted :(

They're extremely contagious.

Might want to get them now though while you're fairly young and healthy as opposed to when you're old and frail.
