They try to keep you all to themselves and sabotage your other relationships by treating the people in your life like crap. The people in your life don't like him/her much either because he/she is treating you like crap too. They put all the utilities in your name. If you are married to them they can keep you from having access to money or stop paying bills so that you have to use your own money. This prevents you from accumulating any real amount of money so you are forced to stay with them. They give you twenty questions a lot. Sometimes they tell you how to dress. They don't discuss big issues with you. They just go ahead and do it. But you somehow feel you need permission from them for even the smallest of things. I believe that controlling another is just a prelude to physical abuse because when the controlled person gets tired of being treated this way, they finally take a stand for themselves. This takes the control away from the controller and then the controller resorts to physical violence to gain back control.
