wall_clock Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 So... I have been at my job now for a little more than 2 months... It's a great job, great pay, benefits, my own office, the whole nine yards. The only problem is that I get so bored while at work. It's not like I am putting off doing my work or anything, but I am in charge of membership at a community center and if there are no new members to sign up, I just sit here. My office is emmaculate and I can only clean it so much... everything is organized and put away, and when I arrive at work, everything I need to do is done within an hour of arriving at work. Sometimes I sit here in my office for 8 hours a day and honestly only do about 15 minutes of real work. My question is, what can I do at work to help pass the time, so I don't sit here bored all the time? Any advise?
Trialbyfire Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Why not put together some form of advertising plan, in order to increase membership? Nothing high profile like a minute commercial during the superbowl...
IfWishesWereHorses Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Or just hang out here on LS with the rest of us! Truly, I'm sorry for you, the worst job I ever had made 8 hours seem like 24. The days were never ending. Loved the people dearly and the environment but Geesh, I'ld come home feeling like i had been run over by a train by doing nothing all day. Next job was 14 hour shifts with out a minute to even take a drink of water. That one went by in what seemed like a few minutes! I agree with TBF, drum up some business, you'll be a superstar!
Art_Critic Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 You need to ask your upper management or boss for other things to do.. Anything... We have a girl here that isn't that busy.. she does AR and answers the phone. She gets bored because she is so fast at her job but she doesn't ask anybody for things to do.. she just sits on the phone talking to friends or IM or email.. she also watches DVDs on her computer.. But the kitchen is always needing attention ( right in front of her office ) or she could do many many things but nobody asks her because she is so into her own world that it isn't worth the effort. I have spoken to her and given her some things to do but she does things so fast and efficient that she gulps it up .. Talk to them.. if they don't have anything to do then keep asking them every so often. You don't want to get in the position that this girl is here.. It isn't good for her to be so self involved or absorbed that people think that is all you do.
