J.LO Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Well, i like this guy that is very mature for his age and didnt realize that he was younger than me. We are friends, and talk a lot, even are in a sport together. He is 16 and iam 18..is that bad? Is it okay to date someone that is about 2 years and 3 months younger than you? It's just at my school people complain about certain people dating younger guys..which i would be one of them. thanks, Jennifer
BlueEyedSarah Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 I think it will be best to wait until he is the legal age (18). Just try be he's friend for now and see what happens in the future. You are both young to be dating. Feelings may change, especially at such a young age.
electric_sheep Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 I don't think 18 (or 16) is too young to be dating. When I was 18 I dated a 16 yo girl. As for sex, I think there are certain amends for people within 2 or 3 years of each other. Of course, none of this even crossed my mind when I was 18, but that was back when the world was more innocent, teens could smoke, and drinking and driving was merely considered irresponsible and not a capital offense. If there were not some sort of exceptions for people close in age the laws would be simply absurd... arrest an 18 yo for having sex with a 17 1/2 yo? Stupid. If you are careful, and always use protection, I encourage you kids to have a good time.
frezzle Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 I'm from the UK where the age of consent is 16. 18 seems to be asking too much too me. Society is weird anyway - their are sexualised pictures around everywhere aimed at kids and then they say you're not old enough to fool around until your 18? Double standards? Anyway, when I was 19 I met the love of my life (to date, at least!) He was 17. We only ended up going out for 3 years and it did end because he felt he was too young to settle with someone. Neither of us regretted a moment, though and he was the coolest guy I have ever come across. To some extent, I wouldn't be who I am today without having known him. It might not last forever (it would be a virtual miracle if it did-you are both very young) but other than that, the age difference shouldn't really come into it.
jcster Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Since you are legally an adult, you will need to check the Age of Consent Laws for your state. You need to take this seriously, as there have been some recent cases of 18 and 19 year olds facing major prison time for having relationships with someone under the legal age.
Yamaha Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 The consensus on this site is that younger guys are the ticket for an older women.
