ku2008 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Anyone done an online non-lawyer divorce? Good, bad, suggestions.
WonderingInMo Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I havent but i have been looking at is aswell and everything that i have read about it is that you have to make a commitment to it and that it will take a while to get done. and that the only way you can do it is if you are both in agreement with everything.
sumdude Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 It depends on the laws of your state and the complexities of your divorce. There really are three divorces ... the emotional one, the financial one and the legal one. Of the three the legal one is the easiest. The financial part needs to be sewn up first. That's where it gets sticky if there are child support, alimony and real estate issues. My X and I didn't have kids or any big things to split so I had a lawyer draw up the financial settlement then did the online paperwork for the actual divorce. Right now I'm just waiting for the courts to send a schedule for the final hearing and it will be finalized there.
