peace_pipe Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Why is this such a hard issue for you to understand? I do understand that you are superficial and anal rententive but I don't have to agree. Not trying to be rude, but that's the truth from where I am sittin'.
peace_pipe Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Yeah and for you to personally attack me on such a simple thread makes me wonder if you've been waiting for the chance to do so. So now there's things that if I mention it makes my H less of a man? Yes. Your choice of wording definatley makes it sound as if he has no choice in the matter regardless of his opinion. A man has choices.
peace_pipe Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 That is a deal-breaker for me. LOL! Let's see what's behind door number 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IpAncA Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 I do understand that you are superficial and anal rententive but I don't have to agree. Not trying to be rude, but that's the truth from where I am sittin'. So now I'm superficial and anal rententive because I have a turn-off? I'm sure you have a couple and if not then your as rare as they come.
Turquoise Waters Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Having certain "preferences" in dating is something we discuss a lot on here...preferences according to looks, weight, employed, etc......so there is nothing wrong with having a "preference" of someone who is a nonsmoker, which is what I have, a preference to date nonsmokers, well, I guess I would say more of a boycott on dating nonsmokers, lol I haven't had a loss of dates because of this.
peace_pipe Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 That is a deal-breaker for me. LOL! Let's see what's behind door number 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully it's a felon or at least a career criminal. But he dosen't SMOKE!!!
IpAncA Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Yes. Your choice of wording definatley makes it sound as if he has no choice in the matter regardless of his opinion. A man has choices. It's HIS choice not to do it. He's made it clear he doesn't like it so why do you think I gave him no choice? He knows how I feel about it. I know how he feels about it. We're on the same page and clearly your not.
Turquoise Waters Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 LOL! Let's see what's behind door number 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't understand what is funny here. I have dated a couple guys who wanted a girl who partied and drank more. I don't really party and drink alcohol too often. I wasn't offended when they no longer wanted to date me. We all have our preferences.

I am sure they have been some real quality dates based on your stringent criteria of non smokers.

Some how you missed the whole point - which was 1. you don't know the future 2. your man is going to change over the years and you married for better or worse and if he decided to take up smoking pipe in his later years WTF are you gonna do? Leave him??
Turquoise Waters Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 I am sure they have been some real quality dates based on your stringent criteria of non smokers. I don't just go out with anyone because they don't smoke. I have met a lot of guys who absolutely refuse to date smokers, also. It's not unusual. Frankly most of the guys who are more quality to me are the ones who are not addicted to smoking on a stick, causing smell, ruining their health and others, always having to stop for cigs. Sorry I don't like the smell of smoke in the house or in cars, or the smell in general. When I am dating a guy, I am looking for a potential life partner, and I don't want to raise kids with a Daddy who smokes. My uncle just died from lung cancer three months ago and it was not a pretty sight.

Leave him?? Yes I don't the future. Never said I did. Unless me saying a word infered otherwise. And yes I know he will change just like I will. And I know it might be hard to understand but if people are non-smokers and are for good reason, they generally stay that way.

God forbid YOU would have to be inconvenienced by another person stopping at a store. Your kids are gonna do much worse things than smoke, silly fool

Just the same as people generally stay married, and generally never cheat.
Turquoise Waters Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 I disagree. It's a control issue. How does me smoking in my back yard affect you? Before your answer, it's my HEALTH we are talking about. You have to die sometime, death is gonna find you on its own time. There's NOTHING you can do to change that. Have you seen the commercial about the waitress who died from second-hand smoke who never smoked herself? It is NOT just YOUR health. Being around people when they're smoking also gives me headaches, why would I date someone who does it? doesn't make sense. This is why on match.com and other dating sites they specifically have you state if you smoke or not. It makes total sense! Most people have a preference.

I ALWAYS believe everything I see... especially on TV. I also believe the commercial where the teenagers run over children cause they smoked pot. Or the anti MJ ads in the early 1900's that portrayed MJ with blacks and insanity. But remember... smoking commercials were "cool" then. How does one know how a person gets lung cancer? I have seen people die at 18 from lung cnacer, never smoked a day in their life. Point is, some smokers respect others and smoke on their OWN time, OWN money and outdoors. So with that being said, don't classify me as endangering others health.

Leave him?? How old are you? Did you go to college? Geezzz.... Why would a man, who never smoked in his entire life, start to smoke when he knows damn well that you detest smokers... really... I think you're just arguing for the sake of arguing... BTW, here in Ottawa no one is allowed to smoke in a public place... (restaurants, malls, etc.) and that's awesome.

Most people have a preference. was from Ottawa, if it's not her, one waitress here in Ottawa died of second hand smoke.. and her death didn't go in vain... the city has passed a by-law.. no more smoking in public places... Now, since last year, in Hull, on the Quebec side, they followed in the same steps... no more smoking in this city either... and apparently, more and more cities in Canada, will ban smoking in public areas.
IpAncA Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Well regardless of this pointless debate, if the OP doesn't want to date a smoker then it's her choice. People can choose to accept smoking as a turn-off or not. Their choice. But the fact remains, there are some that don't like it and never will. And it's their choice not to be around those who do. Also, if the person isn't comfortable dating someone and starts still uncomfortable, it WILL cause problems.
bish Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 This thread is full of generalizations. Women have such an uncanny ability to take one imperfection and mangify it a million times until it becomes so built up in your mind that it makes you lose sense of reality. I'm not a woman. It's no different than me saying I won't date kids with girls or overwieght girls - BUT THEN I WOULD BE FLAMED AS SUPERFICIAL!! I love it!! What is so superficial about not wanting to kiss someone with that nasty taste in their mouth? Would you kiss someone who ate a turd? I hear: He's everything I could want but he smokes. Don't date him because he is not perfect. No...don't date them if you can't stand their nasty habit. A smoker makes your car, house, and clothes stink. Not to mention kissing a smoker tastes like licking an ashtray. Its disgusting. Why would I want to be with someone when kissing them wants to make me vomit? All I can say is wake up!! Did you ever stop to think that you are not perfect? And if someone didn't want to date me because of an imperfection, that is their choice. I don't date smokers because they smell bad...pure and simple.
bish Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 So... men + cigarettes = alcoholic, unstable, bar hopper? What planet are you on? I know so many dudes who smoke makin' more bank and raising their kids better than you ever could. I'm not a woman. And what does making money have to do with stinking like smoke and having a mouth that tastes like crap to kiss?
lonelybird Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 I'm not a woman. Not to mention kissing a smoker tastes like licking an ashtray. Its disgusting. ...pure and simple.
bish Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 I disagree. It's a control issue. How does me smoking in my back yard affect you? It doesn't....the thread is about not wanting to date smokers....you can smoke your lung away if you wish in your own back yard if you wish
bish Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Just to make sure I understand you correctly. So even though this guy is great in every other aspect... all it takes is one little turn off? . We aren't talking about "one little turn off"....we are talking about having to hold your breath every time you kiss a smoker. Kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray. Why kiss someone that makes you gag each time?
