How do you know if a man is whipped?

I was out at a resturant with some friends the other night. I saw a man being really nice towards his wife. He was being sweet, and pulled her chair out for her. Seemed to really be listening to her while they were talking. Got the door for her as they left etc. Well that is cool with me, looks like he has respect. But as we were eating a friend of mine makes the commet, "Oh he is probably whipped, and thats why he does those things for her."

I couldn't help but think, wtf? Just because a man is nice, and respectful he is whipped? So what do you think is considered a whipped man?

It depends. Did she do anything nice for him? Did she show him the same kind of respect and attention when he was speaking? If not, then yeah, he's whipped. If so, then no, he was being loving.

The actions of one person don't define being whipped, IMO. It's the dynamic involved. One person being loving and attentive while the other takes it for granted and walks all over them is being whipped. Two people showing each other love and respect is not.

To me, you can't tell if that guy is whipped or not.

The only guys that you would be able to figure that out about are people whom you know. Generally speaking, whipped guys never or very rarely go out with his guys friends.

Example: if she is staying home to work on scrapbooking stuff and he passes up on hanging out with the guys and just stays home and watches her do that stuff, then he is probably whipped. (This is something that I saw a friend of mine go through)

A whipped guy is the same thing as a doormat guy.

That's called CHIVALRY. It's not dead.

Being whipped is when you do things for her at the expense of your own happiness. Once in a great while is ok, but not often.

If a man lets a woman walk all over him and treat him like crap he is whipped. Also if his wife cheats and he apologizes for making her cheat he is whipped. What you saw was not a whipped man as long as she is willing to return the kind gestures.

Yes, she seemed to be really into him as well. They just looked really loving and kind towards each other.

Then I wouldn't call him whipped and I'm also a little jealous. :D

Well that may be true. I have seen guys that jump right after their spouse or S/O tells them how high. :p Of course, that doesn't always mean they are whipped I guess.

That sounds like a happy and healthy relationship to me.

I agree.

Like I said above, a whipped man will never say no to the woman and will do everything that she wants him to do.

Same thing applies to a whipped woman.

Yeah it was nice to see. They looked to maybe be in their 50's I guess.

My friend who made the comment about the husband being whipped, I'm really surprised she also didn't say, something along the lines of, "He is either whipped, or its not his wife, his mistress and right now he is being nice until he gets some puss, then all that niceness will stop."

Can ya tell she's a bitter person? :p

That was probably his mistress.... :D

Seriously, first, you just assumed it was his wife... could have been his date and he wanted to impress her... right?

We can't say just by watching a couple, like that, whether the man is being whipped or not...

This is funny... because, before I came here, I never thought there were so many men that were walked all over by their SO...

I know a guy who is literally abused physically, verbally and emotionally, by his wife... he is what we called a 'doormat'... so for me, a whipped man/woman is a doormat...

So I guess that means if a woman says, bend over I got something for ya and he does, then he is whipped. With no if, ands or butts (pardon the pun) about it. :p:laugh:

My cousins dad is whipped BIG TIME! His W wears the pants in the family. She makes all the decisions without his imput and he just goes along for the ride. He's so stupid. Didn't even know my cousin was in college.

When she tell him to jump, he asks how high. She's like a man trapped in a women's body and a bi**h.

A man is "whipped" if his gf/wife repeatedly treats him with a lack of respect, especially in front of others, and he just swallows his pride and takes it every time.

I don't think the guy you mentioned was whipped, more like the guy who talked to you was trying to act macho or something.

she could have been a hooker or a mistress or his sister.

People don't always reciprocate in the same way. For example, the woman might be a bit of a "princess" in public, and it looks like the guy is whipped because she doesn't act all loving to him in front of everyone. But back home she might cook like an Italian, bring him beers while he watches sport on tv, and say "what fantasy do you want to do tonight darling?" every time they go to bed.

I think it needs active disrespect before you can say someone is whipped.

Just my opinion, but in my experience, it seems that most married men are whipped to some extent, especially the ones that have been married for a long time. It just comes with the territory.

I adore men who have manners. Holding the door open, pulling out the chair and standing when a lady enters the room or stands up, just automatically bumps up my respect level for a man.

As for the question of whipped or not, a man is whipped when he doesn't have any self-respect. He can be whipped in any relationship, romantic, friendship or otherwise.

But we don't refer to it as "whipped" when dealing with friends.:p

"Joe, you have to learn to stand up to Artie. Damn Girlfriend, you're whipped."

Maybe you Canadians use it universally, but around here when dealing with anything other then a romantic relationship, it is not called "whipped".

For friends we use the term "pushover".:p
