TheSilentType Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Why is it that blonds are usually casted as the women men most desire? You always here things like, "guys want some hot blonde wife..." etc Is there something about blond hair that is so much more attractive than other colors? There are so many super gorgeous brunettes and women with black hair. In fact, I find that all of my love interests have had this color hair.
disgracian Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 I prefer redheds. Blondes actually come last in my list. I've never understood what makes them inherently more appealing than any other colour. *shrugs* Cheers, D.
Carbine Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 I know, it's really irritating that blondes seem to be the ultimate in male desire/fantasy. I'm brunette and I sometimes feel that I don't measure up to blondes, and it makes me feel a bit overlooked . I asked my boyfriend once why he and other men have this blonde fantasy and he replied that he automatically assumed that he'd end up with a blonde gf/wife because he is blonde *rolls eyes*. When pressed further, he said that blondes stand out more and that it doesn't mean that they're more attractive than girls with other hair colours... I guess also it has to do with Western norms and cultural preference to a large degree. Here in Australia the population is dominated by people with anglo-saxon heritage, hence the ideal beauty is considered to be blonde haired/blue eyed/pale skinned. This probably wouldn't be the case in other cultures and parts of the world.
ConfusedButLoved Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 I'm a natural blonde and have had my hair dyed brunette for about 4 years now. I think brunette women are HIGHLY attractive! (and men too!!) I don't think blonde's have more fun, its just a stereotype and a phrase. I think everyone has their own preference.
McFadden Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 It's because they are the most Aryan, hence inherently superior and instinctively everyone knows it. Of course men are going to want to mate with someone who has the most pure Aryan genes. Before anyone balks at me saying that, I'm not even blonde or Aryan, so I'm dissing myself. However I bow down to the Aryans and natural blondes. Not the fake ones, they disgust me.
laRubiaBonita Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 i think the whole "blondes have more fun" addage came about in the 40's and 50's, when marilyn monroe and jayne mansfield were big stars, and doing the platinum blonde pin-up girl thing.
doiask42much Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 I agree with LaRubia that it seems to be a product of old Hollywood movies and it just kind of stuck. I had a blond male coworker who felt blonds were inherently superior because they were rarer since it's a weak genetic trait. One could then argue that redheads were more superior still, but redheads have not traditionally been promoted as Hollywood's ideal woman. Could it also be that blondes have a more childlike naivete and therefore submissiveness about them (a la Monroe), given that many Caucasian children start off with light-colored hair but then become darker-haired as they grow older? Just a thought. I really don't think that younger people (under 30) have any express preference for blondes, though, as they didn't grow up watching Monroe, Mansfield, Lana Turner, or by now, even Christie Brinkley. The big-boobed blonde archetype, while still seen as attractive by some, certainly isn't THE ONLY look. Interracial dating and immigration seem to be creating more diversity, and I even read somewhere that by the year 2040 or something like that, there would be no more natural blondes left due to the factors I just mentioned (interracial mixing, immigration, weak trait). When you consider the stars now promoted as being beautiful in Hollywood, there's Halle, Penelope, Jessica Alba, and redheads like Kidman and Lohan. I tend to think Alba's mixed heritage and body type (more petite but curvy enough) represent the look more people are into now (people weren't as into fitness/thinness back in the day), but that could just be around L.A.? From my own informal polls, I get the vibe that really big boobs are seen as almost fat (since you need to have a decent amount of body fat for them to be that big) and matronly, unless they are fake. Sad!
my body is a cage Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 One day out of boredom I found myself googling this very question, and came across an interesting article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/1248103.stm
Lizzie60 Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 I don't know if they have more fun...but they are 'more noticed'... I am not sure where that 'blond fantasy' comes from but it's true that blondes are 'more noticed' than brunettes or redheads... It might come from Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot, men's fantasy... blonde bombshell.... If Pamela Anderson was a brunette, she wouldn't be as popular... she is the ultimate men's fantasy. Even more than any other blonde icons. I personally prefer brunettes... I am a brunette myself.. and even for guys, I'm not attracted to blond guys... I love a tall, dark and handsome waayy more. I have noticed that on the streets... quite a few times... people turn their heads when they see a 'platinum' blond walking on the sidewalk... even women will look... it's amazing.. how blondes attracts. Good for them... but I will never go blonde. LOL
alphamale Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 blondes are more popular cause their hair is more eye-catching and they stand out from a crowd. when chicks drive by in cars I don't notice the ones with dark hair

Culture though has played a role in having blondes stick out from the rest. "Blondes have more fun" and all that garbage. Also they portray a blonde as being ditzy and easy, which apparently alot of guys like. I will say that hair color has never been a consideration for me when it came to meeting women. Although my GF is a blonde, but that is just a coincidence.
